UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES / DRONES
The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) has noted with concern the proliferation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) also known as Drones in the Tanzanian Airspace that are operated by various entities or individuals.
It should be noted that operation of all aircraft within the Tanzania airspace or at any point in Tanzania is subject to regulatory approval and/or authorizations by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority.
It is hereby noted that, with immediate effect all institutions/entities or individuals intending to procure, test or operate Remotely Piloted Aircraft must:
a) Seek approval from the Ministry of Defence and National Service.
b) Obtain authorization from Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority.
Please be guided by the current Aeronautical Information Circular (AIC) number 5/17 (Pink 62) of 1 JAN 2017 found on our website (www.tcaa.go.tz) for detailed information on limitations and conditions for the operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft in Tanzania in accordance with the provisions of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Circular 328 AN/190.

It should be noted that authorizations to operate remotely piloted aircraft will only be considered by the Authority following approvals by the Ministry of Defence and National Service.
