Last year, we stepped onto the UMITASHUMTA stage for the first time, a defining moment in our journey to grow cricket at the grassroots level in Tanzania. It was a season of learning, discovery, and laying the foundation for something much bigger.

This year, we return stronger, more structured, and more committed to developing young talent across the country. The growth since our first participation reflects a clear vision: building a sustainable pathway for school cricket to thrive and produce future stars.

The 2026 UMITASHUMTA Cricket Tournament will run from 9th June to 17th June 2026 at the historic Lugalo Cricket Ground, bringing together young cricketers from across Tanzania.

From 8 regions, 16 teams — 8 boys’ teams and 8 girls’ teams, will compete with pride, passion, and purpose.

🏏 Group 1
Arusha | Mwanza | Pwani | Zanzibar

🏏 Group 2
Morogoro | Singida | Kilimanjaro | Iringa

This is more than a tournament. It is a platform for growth, discipline, teamwork, and opportunity. Every match played is a step closer to shaping the next generation of Tanzanian cricket. At the Tanzania Cricket Association, the commitment remains firm, to invest in grassroots development and ensure every talented child has a chance to be seen, supported, and developed.

Earlier today, umpires and captains from across our leagues came together for an intensive two-hour seminar led by TCA Head of Umpires, Adil Kassam, focusing on the key aspects of modern cricket officiating and match management.

The session covered practical umpiring scenarios, decision-making, player management, communication, positioning and movement on the field, the Laws of Cricket, Playing Conditions, disciplinary procedures, report writing, over-rate management, and lessons drawn from recent league matches. It also provided a valuable platform for officials and captains to exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and promote consistency in the application of the Laws across all competitions.

As part of TCA’s ongoing commitment to raising officiating standards, regular educational sessions such as these continue to equip officials with the knowledge, confidence, and professionalism required to effectively manage the game at all levels.

Being in the UK, I was determined to meet Suresh bhai Raval a retired ex captain of Tanzania cricket team, who has retired from active life and in his 90s living in his country side home. Had met him in 2024 when we hosted the legends reunion in Dar and we instantly struck a cord. I was impressed with his calm personality, soft spoken always and his amazing reading of the game.

Managed to get his address and had to travel miles, change trains, take multiple Ubers to reach his home in hawksheads road at potters bar, a quite sleepy town.

He had tears in his eyes as me and my son shiv walked in and he sat next to me, holding my hand firmly and was vocal of the developments at Tanzania cricket. As he was taking, saw his enthusiasm going up and his eyes were glittering with pride. The memento we gave him last time has found a prominent place in his gallery.

Such a refreshing moment to spend time with him. As we spoke, his natural instinct was visible as he spoke of few of his great innings, and he told me to appoint him in the accounts department at TCA !! I invited him to attend the next year’s reunion in Zanzibar and he gave me a mischievous smile, his eyes still glittering.

As I slowly got up to bid adieu, I saw him holding my hands more firmly and didn’t want to let me go. All good things have to come to an end. When I walked into the car, he escorted me like a father, proudly wearing the TCA shawl I presented to him and still holding my hand.

Bidding farewell again was tuff for me and hence I jumped into the car and as the car speeded away, a frail but sharp Suresh bhai was still waiving at me. Not sure when I will meet him again but was difficult to hold my tears and after a long time I felt a lump in my throat.

We come across some people in life, we meet them only few times, but they leave a lasting impression on you.

Suresh bhai - you were a superstar in your good days and you will continue to inspire and guide us for years to come. The blessings you gave me today will be treasured till my last breath🌹🌹

A special day at the Korogwe Centre as Basit Hassan Raza (Basit Bhai), one of our Women’s Selectors, paid a visit to interact with our young cricketers. 🏏

The Tanzania Cricket Association proudly congratulates our Head of Umpires, Adil Dawood Kassam, on his historic selection to the ICC Development Panel A Africa, becoming the first Tanzanian umpire to achieve this remarkable milestone.

This achievement marks another major step in Adil’s outstanding journey in cricket officiating and reflects years of hard work, discipline, professionalism, and commitment to the game. Through his consistent performances at both regional and international levels, Adil has continued to raise the profile of Tanzanian cricket officiating across Africa and beyond.

Over the years, he has officiated in several prestigious ICC pathway tournaments, including the ICC Men’s Under 19 World Cup Qualifiers, ICC Men’s T20 Sub Regional Qualifiers, and the African Games Cricket Competition in Ghana. His exceptional performances earned him appointments to officiate high profile matches, including semi finals and the Men’s Tournament Final at the African Games, another historic moment for Tanzania Cricket.

In 2023, Adil became the first Tanzanian umpire to attain the Cricket South Africa Level 3 Umpire Certification, further cementing his place among the continent’s leading cricket officials. He has also contributed immensely to the development of umpiring standards in Tanzania after successfully completing the ICC Umpires Tutors Course in Zimbabwe, helping mentor and guide the next generation of cricket officials locally.

Adil’s achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Tanzania Cricket and a strong reflection of the progress being made within the sport nationally. His journey continues to inspire young officials, players, and the wider cricket community across the country.

TCA also congratulates David Odhiambo Agutu of Kenya, Enesi Amoto Habib of Nigeria, and Ravi Venkata Kanth Angara of Botswana, who were also selected to the ICC Development Panel A Africa alongside Adil. Their achievements reflect the continued growth and strength of cricket officiating across the African continent.

TCA celebrates this historic accomplishment and wishes all the selected officials continued success as they continue to raise the standard of African cricket officiating on the international stage.
