The Dar es Salaam Schools’ League 2025 has been our most spectacular season since the very first league in 2016. Despite a few challenges along the way, this season left us with unforgettable matches, rising stars, and powerful stories of teamwork and determination.
From the first push-back to the final whistle, our young athletes showed us what it truly means to play, aspire and become — giving their very best in every moment and on every pitch.
This season was all about:
💥 Passion on the pitch
💥 Confidence in our youth
💥 Fair play and friendship
💥 Dreams turning into goals
Huge congratulations to every school, every player, and every coach who made this league shine. And a massive THANK YOU to our teachers, parents, partners, and supporters for standing with these future champions.
The future of hockey in Tanzania is bright — and this season proved it. 🌟🏑

The 7th Edition Dar es Salaam Schools Hockey League 2025 – Shaping Tanzania’s Future Hockey Stars!
The Dar Schools' League 2025,jointly organised and sponsored in collaboration with our long time partner Tanzania Hockey Association, is in full swing across Dar es Salaam, and the excitement is contagious! A total of 20 partner schools(9 primary and 11 secondary) are taking part in this annual league.
Every weekend, 200+ young talents hit the pitch, showing off their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
The league proudly features Boys’ and Girls’ divisions in Under-14 and Under-18 categories, celebrating youth talent, inclusivity, sportsmanship and determination.
So far since August, over 600 students have competed in 100+ thrilling matches , lighting up the game with energy, sportsmanship, and passion.
The heat is on for the Under-18s as they each battle for a spot in the schools’ select combined teams(1 boys' and 3 girls' teams ) that will play in the prestigious Nyerere Cup next week in Moshi Town, Kilimanjaro.
And it’s not just match time—our school and community training sessions are still ongoing, giving even more young players the chance to develop their skills and shine!
A huge thank you to our partners and supporters for helping us grow the game and empower Tanzania’s next generation of hockey stars.

Another successful weekend realized over the 8-10 August weekend at the Nane Nane tournament.
This is a tournament in Dar held annually by the BlackMambaz Hockey Club.
Our three under 21s teams ( one boys' and two girls' teams) did not disappoint and brought their A game over the entire three days.
The greatly improved boys' team lost with minimal margins, not conceding more than two goals in any of the group stage matches against the senior teams .
The girls brought the winners' trophy home after defeating seasoned arch rivals TPDF ladies in the hotly contested final match.
Big up to the coaches Zuwena Hassani King Nshoro Msemwa Edfonc Mbela Shadidi and Elieza Mwankemwa.

Hockey showcase is one of the major highlights in our calendar. The showcase is done at the start of every school year and it mainly focuses on demonstrating hockey to the new students enrolling for their secondary school education.
It is interesting to note that the number of students already familiar with the sports is growing.
This is widely attributed to our community hockey program, which focuses on taking hockey to the people.
The community program is a supplement of the schools' program.

Our first tournament of the year and things are already looking good!
Our Under 21s ( boys and girls)took part in this year's Mapinduzi Cup in Dar es Salaam.
The introduction of younger , skilled players (who are or were in our program) to the tournaments is changing the face of Tanzanian clubs and bringing new life to the tournaments.
Our two most memorable matches are Twende boys against national champs Moshi Khalsa in which our team conceded only two goals.
For the ladies, the match of the tournament was against seasoned TPDF ladies .The match ended in a 1-1 draw ,despite playing into extra time.
This was so far the best 90 minutes of hockey ever played by both teams,a sign of good things to come!
The future of hockey in Tanzania is indeed bright!

A small step for Twende, giant leap for girls and women in Tanzania!
Twende Hockey club participated in its first tournament outside of Dar es salaam, the Nyerere Cup , an annual tournament that has become one of the biggest tournaments in the Tanzania hockey calendar.
In its 13 years, this was the first time that there was a women's' category.
Our delegation had a total of 4 teams ( 3 womens' teams and 1 men's team).
As in line with our programs focusing on youth development,Twende Hockey Club players are under 21 years of age...with an average team age of 16 years.
The tournament had a total of 8 men's teams and 4 women's teams.
Despite playing well, our 'boys' managed one draw and two losses while the girls brought the trophy home!
And yes.....the best player in the women's category was one of our own.
The future of Tanzania Hockey is indeed bright!
Sidenote:
70% of the current players in Tanzania are products of Twende !

We are growing!!
Introducibg our newest program, our very own hockey club, officially registered under the National sports council of Tanzania.
Twende Hockey Club is a youth sports club for both men and women from the ages of 18-21.This age bracket is still school going age(High school - Advanced Level ) and the club's aim is to further develop the players in a holistic way by preparing them for transition to the next level of hockey which is club or senior team whilst keeping them in school ,college or university.
Registration is automatic to any player who has already completed their secondary education or turned 18 years of age.
While the under 18s play in the schools' league, the Twende Hockey Club players get to play in the senior tournaments and league.
With the senior teams ( clubs ) now composed mostly of our players from the 2014 - 2022 period, the shape and face of Tanzania hockey is gradually but steadily changing for the better.

Flashback : In 2013 we started with only 13 women (The Twende 13),some of whom were already mothers.
They chose the name Twende ,Swahili word for Let's go!
The resilience , the determination and the heart they had is what gave birth to Twende Hockey.
Fast forward: Every year since then,an average of 400 girls in Dar es Salaam alone participate in our hockey programs.
