Protecting the coastline, one seedling at a time! 🌱

​In celebration of National Tree Planting Day, the team at 2 Winds Paddle Sports joined forces with Year 1 students of ISZ to start a mangrove nursery. We planted young yellow mangroves today! In a few months, once they’ve grown strong enough to withstand the tides, they’ll be transplanted into the mangrove forest to help support our vital ecosystems.

Why Mangroves Matter:
​Mangroves are much more than just trees in the water—they are "superheroes" of the natural world:

​Coastal Guardians: Their dense root systems act as a natural buffer, protecting our shores from erosion, storm surges, and rising sea levels.

​Carbon Champions: Mangroves are incredibly efficient at "carbon sequestration." They can store up to four times more carbon than traditional tropical rainforests, making them a critical tool in fighting climate change.

​The Ocean's Nursery: Many of the fish and crustacean species we see on the reef began their lives tucked safely between mangrove roots, which provide a protected habitat away from larger predators.

​Natural Filters: They help maintain water quality by filtering out pollutants and trapping sediments before they reach the coral reefs and seagrass beds.
