Representatives of Seven Countries Joined the DP5YOU International Conference in Chernivtsi

On 18 September 2026, the international conference “European Experience in Working with Migrant and Refugee Children in the EU, Ukraine, and Moldova” took place at Chernivtsi City Council in a hybrid format. The event brought together approximately 100 participants from seven countries, including researchers, educators, young people, students, youth workers, and representatives of civil society organisations and public authorities.

The conference was held as part of the “Digital Platform of Knowledge and Skills Development for Youth Working with Child Migrants and Refugees at European Level” (DP5YOU) project, co-funded by the European Union. The project is coordinated by the NGO “YOUTH. SCIENCE. SPORT. HEALTHY MOVEMENT OF UKRAINE”.

The event opened with remarks from Viktoriia Riasna, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport of Ukraine, who emphasised the importance of the project, international cooperation, and preparing young people to work with migrant and refugee children. Anastasia Simakhova, Head of the Council of Young Scientists at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, also welcomed participants and spoke about the opportunities offered by the DP5YOU digital platform for young people and youth workers.

Natalia Frunze, Director of the Department of Social Policy of Chernivtsi City Council, delivered a welcome address. Marina Skrypnyk, Deputy Director of the Department and Head of a Division, and Natalia Sabadash, Head of the Family and Youth Department, also took part in the conference.

During the plenary presentation, representatives of the coordinating organisation — Iaroslav Galan, Olena Yarmak, and Liliana Hutsuliak — presented the results of DP5YOU, including its digital learning platform, international and national activities, educational materials, and research findings.

Project partners also shared their experience. Joana Galvão represented ASSOCIAÇÃO CHECK-IN – COOPERAÇÃO E DESENVOLVIMENTO (Portugal). Olena Prysiazhniuk of INSTITUTUL DE INSTRUIRE ÎN DEZVOLTARE MILLENIUM (Moldova) delivered a presentation entitled “From identity to belonging: an integrated practice model for Ukrainian children and youth living in Moldova, 2022–2026.” Oleksandr Tuz spoke on behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Ukraine. Representatives of the National Agency for Programme Development and Youth Work (Moldova) also joined the conference. The partners’ contributions provided an opportunity to discuss approaches to youth work, social integration, and support for children across different countries.

Other presentations focused on practical ways to support children. Andrii Ohnystyi and Kateryna Ohnysta presented European experience in organising sports clubs for children with special educational needs. Oleksandra Tsybaniuk discussed the role of physical education and motor adaptation in the psychosocial rehabilitation of migrant and refugee children, while Olena Platonova shared practices for providing psychological support and helping children recover during wartime.

A key part of the event was the presentation of Youthpass certificates to young people who completed training on the DP5YOU digital platform and developed skills for working with migrant and refugee children.

Project awards for contributions to its implementation were presented to Yurii Moseichuk, Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Physical Culture, Sport and Rehabilitation; Andrii Slobozhaninov, Honoured Coach of Ukraine; Olha Nikoliichuk, Honoured Master of Sport of Ukraine; and Associate Professors Olena Moroz, Svitlana Duditska, and Oleksandra Tsybaniuk.

More than 20 conference abstracts were prepared. The conference proceedings have been published on the official DP5YOU project website.

The conference provided a space to present research findings, exchange professional experience, and strengthen partnerships supporting migrant and refugee children.

11 September 2026 saw an online working meeting of coordinators from partner organisations of the international project ‘Digital Platform for Knowledge and Skills Development for Youth Working with Displaced Children and Refugees at the European Level’ (DP5YOU), co-funded by the European Union.

The participants focused primarily on preparations for the international conference ‘European Experience for Working with Migrant and Refugee Children in the EU, Ukraine, and Moldova’, which will take place in a hybrid format. The event will bring together representatives from seven countries, including speakers, academics and active young people, to exchange experiences and discuss practices for working with displaced children and refugees.

The project coordinator informed the partners of the number of abstracts submitted to the organising committee and presented the agenda and programme for the conference. During the discussion, the participants reviewed the content of the presentations, the sequence of the event, and the organisational aspects of the participation of representatives from partner organisations.

Following the discussion, the partners identified key actions for organising the conference in a hybrid format. In particular, they agreed on the next steps regarding coordination with speakers, informing participants, ensuring online connectivity and preparing a collection of conference abstracts.

A separate item on the agenda was the status of participant registration on the DP5YOU digital platform and the collection of user feedback. The partners discussed the number of registered participants from each country, the number and content of the feedback received, as well as the next steps for engaging young people in learning and gathering feedback to assess the quality of the learning materials and the platform’s performance.
The participants also reviewed the preparation of reports, discussed the systematisation of the results of the activities carried out, and future collaboration between the partner organisations.

The working meeting marked an important stage in the joint preparations for the international conference and the coordination of the project’s final activities. The agreed actions are aimed at ensuring the conference is conducted to a high standard, disseminating the results of DP5YOU and strengthening international cooperation in the field of supporting displaced children and refugees.

On 12 August 2026, a transnational meeting of partners entitled “Transnational Project Meeting in Moldova within the framework of International Youth Day” took place in the Republic of Moldova within the framework of the project “Digital Platform of Knowledge and Skills Development for Youth Working with Child Migrants and Refugees at European Level” (DP5YOU), co-funded by the European Union.

The event was held in the context of International Youth Day and combined project coordination, the exchange of experience, stakeholder engagement, and the promotion of the DP5YOU project’s results.

The event was organised by the National Agency for Programs Development and Youth Work (Chisinau, Moldova). The meeting brought together representatives of the project’s partner organisations:

the NGO “YOUTH. SCIENCE. SPORTS. HEALTHY MOVEMENT OF UKRAINE” (Ukraine);
ASSOCIACAO CHECK-IN – COOPERACAO E DESENVOLVIMENTO (Portugal);
the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine (Ukraine);
INSTITUTUL DE INSTRUIRE IN DEZVOLTARE MILLENIUM (Republic of Moldova).

During a working visit to the office of the National Youth Agency in Chisinau, the partners learned about the main areas of youth policy in the Republic of Moldova, national youth programmes, and the activities of youth centres, non-governmental organisations, and other youth-sector structures. Particular attention was paid to the importance of international partnerships, the exchange of experience, and the dissemination of successful practices within the implementation of the DP5YOU project.

The next part of the programme was a working visit to Bălți – Youth Capital of the Republic of Moldova 2026. An information meeting was held at Bălți City Hall with the participation of the municipal leadership, representatives of central and local public authorities, international and non-governmental organisations, project partners, and members of the Ukrainian community from the northern regions of Moldova.

During the meeting, participants discussed programmes and opportunities available at the local, national, and international levels, as well as mechanisms for supporting and integrating Ukrainians in the Republic of Moldova. Representatives of the Ukrainian partner organisations presented the DP5YOU learning platform and introduced participants to the policies of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine concerning the support and integration of Ukrainian refugees.

Young Ukrainians shared their experiences of learning, participating in community life, and integrating into local communities. They highlighted the importance of non-formal education, meaningful leisure activities, and initiatives organised by youth centres in Bălți with the support of central and local public authorities. Participants also emphasised the need to expand such opportunities, involve more non-governmental organisations, and strengthen donor support for youth initiatives.

The information meeting brought together more than 50 participants, including 23 representatives of the Ukrainian community, as well as representatives of donor organisations, central and local public authorities, and project partner organisations. The participants also visited the CRAT Youth Centre, where they learned about the conditions created for youth work and the practical implementation of DP5YOU activities at the local level.

An important component of the “Transnational Project Meeting in Moldova within the framework of International Youth Day” was the presentation of the DP5YOU project during activities dedicated to International Youth Day. Approximately 60 representatives of the youth community participated, together with representatives of non-governmental and donor organisations, central and local public authorities, and project partners.

During the coordination part of the meeting, the partners reviewed the activities implemented and the results achieved, exchanged experiences, agreed on further tasks, and identified priorities for the final stage of the project, including the preparation of the final international conference and final reporting.

The transnational meeting contributed to strengthening cooperation among DP5YOU partners, public authorities, youth centres, non-governmental organisations, and the Ukrainian community in the Republic of Moldova. Its outcomes will provide an important foundation for the successful completion of the project, the sustainability of its results, and the continued use of the DP5YOU digital platform in work with young people, displaced children, and refugees.

On 11 August 2026, a transnational meeting of partners in the project “Digital Platform of Knowledge and Skills Development for Youth Working with Child Migrants and Refugees at European Level” (DP5YOU), co-funded by the European Union, took place in Chișinău (Republic of Moldova). The event was held as part of the celebrations for International Youth Day.

The event was organised by the INSTITUTUL DE INSTRUIRE IN DEZVOLTARE MILLENIUM (Republic of Moldova). Representatives of the project’s partner organisations took part in the meeting:

NGO “YOUTH. SCIENCE. SPORT. HEALTHY MOVEMENT OF UKRAINE” (Ukraine);
ASSOCIACAO CHECK-IN – COOPERACAO E DESENVOLVIMENTO (Portugal);
Ministry of Youth and Sport of Ukraine;
National Agency for Programmes Development and Youth Work (Republic of Moldova).

The programme of the event consisted of two main parts: a coordination meeting of the project partners and an information and discussion session with representatives of the Ukrainian community in Moldova, in particular young Ukrainian refugees.

During the coordination meeting, the partners presented the results of the work carried out within the five work packages of the project and analysed the progress of the planned activities and the preparation of the relevant outputs. Particular attention was paid to promoting the learning opportunities offered by the DP5YOU digital platform amongst young people and youth workers.

Participants also discussed the communication and promotion of the project’s results, preparations for the final international conference, the completion of ongoing tasks, the evaluation of results and the drafting of the final report. The coordination meeting brought together 11 representatives from all the project’s partner organisations.

The second half of the day featured an information and discussion session with young Ukrainian refugees and representatives of the Ukrainian community in the Republic of Moldova. Participants exchanged information on available programmes, educational opportunities, support mechanisms and prospects for cooperation.

Representatives of the Ukrainian community shared their own experiences of learning, participating in youth initiatives and integrating into Moldovan society. During the discussion, the importance of further developing non-formal education, meaningful leisure activities, distance learning and expanding opportunities for young Ukrainians to participate in community life was emphasised. Eleven representatives of the Ukrainian community in Moldova, as well as partners of the DP5YOU project, took part in the session.

The event helped to strengthen coordination between partners, facilitate the exchange of experiences and best practices, and foster cooperation between young people, civil society organisations and public authorities. Direct dialogue with the Ukrainian community made it possible to better take into account the current needs and experiences of young Ukrainian refugees.

The outcomes of the meeting will form an important basis for the successful completion of the project’s next stages, the organisation of the final international conference, and the continued use of the DP5YOU materials and digital tools developed once the project has concluded.

18–19 September 2026 will see an international conference held in a hybrid format, offering the option of in-person and online participation.

The conference is organised within the project “Digital Platform of Knowledge and Skills Development for Youth Working with Child Migrants and Refugees at European Level” (DP5YOU), co-funded by the European Union. Its purpose is to bring together researchers, educators, young people, youth workers, representatives of educational institutions and civil society organisations, as well as everyone working with migrant and refugee children.

The conference will focus on European approaches and modern methodologies for working with migrant and refugee children. Particular attention will be given to the use of digital technologies, practices of social integration and adaptation, psychosocial support for children, and the development of knowledge and practical skills among young people and youth workers.

The conference programme will include plenary and parallel sessions featuring presentations by leading researchers and representatives of public authorities, educational institutions and civil society organisations working in the field of youth policy. Participants will have an opportunity to present the results of their research and practical activities, discuss current challenges and exchange European best practices.
