(Eng) The History of “OCEAN” Yacht (Pepsi Challenge) QT.

The yacht was constructed by joint efforts of two famous Italian ship-building companies. Project CYD 0191 (Sailing racing yacht Quarter Ton) was developed by Ceccarelli (Ceccarelli Yacht Design and Engineering) and the yacht itself was built in 1991 at Galetti shipyard (Cantiere Nautico Italo Galetti).
At the time when the yacht was constructed, it was a real innovation. The hull of the yacht was made of sandwich-structured composite that included carbon fiber. Yanmar engine (7 horsepower), and 2 tanks (50 l for water and 15 l for fuel) were installed on the QT. The vessel’s displacement was 1350 kg with overall length of 8.25m; load waterline 7.50m; maximum beam 2.55m; draught 1.90m. Diamond Danimarca, together with Jens Christensen, developed a set of outstanding sails specifically for this project (the set was used for the yacht until 2010-2011).

The yacht was named “Pepsi Challenge QT” and was registered in Greece: GRE494. The first owner of yacht was Nontas Lampadarios, first helmsman was George Ertsos. Pepsi Challenge’s racing career started in September 1991, when she won second place at The World Championship Quarter Ton Class in Porto Carras (Greece).

It’s worth noting that to other yachts that participated in The World Championship Quarter Ton Class 1991 competition are now also located in Kyiv: ANATOLIA (SR350) - one of the four yachts representing USSR that took 13th place; and GEN MAR (I11917) that was representing Italy and took 6th place (in 1992 the latter was renamed into JONATHAN IV (ITA11197) later in 1993 was called SCORPIO (POL391) and finally in 2005 was registered as UKR 495).
After 1991, “Pepsi Challenge” mostly took part in Greek regional competitions. In 1995 the QT was renamed into OKEANOS 2 (GRE494). According to some (unverified) sources, between the years 1995 and 2001 the yacht was barely used.2001 marks the new decade in the life of the Yacht. Oleh Dymko was heavily involved in the QT’s migration to Kyiv, where she was christened OCEAN (UKR132). It was an important milestone in the yacht’s history of Kyiv, as there were no other yachts of such level in Ukraine at that time. From 2001 to 2010 OCEAN QT won multiple awards (including first places) at Hetman Cup, Wind Master Regatta and other regional regattas that take place in Ukraine. Many famous Ukrainian yachtsmen sailed the Yacht throughout that decade: Oleksandr Kaznadej, Oleksandr Sych, Dmitry Yarovyj, Vasyl Kolobov, Yuriy Udovytskyy etc.

In 2010, Sergii Rubanik became the new owner, captain and helmsman of OCEAN. The new stage of Yacht’s history has begun. The yacht already had no engine, so its weight was partially compensated with a lead ballast. The hull was fully renovated with almost complete replacement of running rig. The famous sailmakers Vasyl Kirienko and Voloshenyuk brothers created multiple sets of sails for various weather conditions.

The OCEAN QT crew was formed in 2011 with active involvement of Maksym Zinchenko: Vitalii Bezyk (tactics), Dmytro Aksionov (back), Oleksandr Bogoley (sheets). In 2013 Dmytro Aksionov was replaced by Vasyl Bondar and was later joined by Evgeniy Suvorov. Current permanent crew of the Yacht consists of five people.

Today, OCEAN QT is located at “Yunior” yacht-club (Kyiv reservoir). The Yacht is a successful contestant at almost all regional regattas, including « Energetyk Yacht-club Cup», commemorative regatta «Na dobryj spomyn», «Pivdenna varta», and other competitions. The most recent important event was OCEAN’s participation in the Championship of Ukraine for cruising-sport yachts with ORC system, which took place in Svitlovodsk 3rd - 9th June 2016. The Yacht took 3rd place.

As the future plans, they do exist, but as one not-too-nice politician used to say: Let’s not to talk about the bad things, but rather do them))

История яхты ОКЕАН (Pepsi Challenge) QT.

К постройке яхты были причастны две известные в мире судостроения, компании из Италии. Проект CYD 0191 (Sailing racing yacht Quarter Ton) разрабатывался компанией Ceccarelli (Ceccarelli Yacht Design and Engineering). Постройка яхты осуществлялась в 1991 году на судоверфи Galetti (Cantiere Nautico Italo Galetti).

Это был очень инновационный проект для своего времени. Корпус изготовлен из сандвич-панелей с добавлением карбоновых волокон. На яхте был установлен стационарный двигатель Yanmar мощностью 7л.с., а также 2 танка: 50 л. для воды, и 15 л. для топлива. Проектная масса яхты составляла 1350 кг, при LOA mt.8.25; LWL mt.7.50; BMAX mt.2.55; DRAFT mt.1.90. Специально для данного проекта компанией Diamond Danimarca, при участии Jens Chrstensen, был создан комплект замечательных парусов (этот комплект активно использовался на яхте вплоть до 2010-11 годов).

Яхта получила имя Pepsi Challenge QT и греческую регистрацию – GRE494. Первым владельцем яхты был Nontas Lampadarios, рулевым George Ertsos. Свою спортивную карьеру яхта Pepsi Challenge начала очень ярко. Уже в сентябре 1991 года на World Championship Quarter Ton Class, который проводился в Porto Carras (Greece) – яхта Pepsi Challenge заняла 2-е место.

World Championship Quarter Ton Class 1991 года примечателен тем, что в нем принимали участие еще две яхты, которые сейчас также дислоцированы в Киеве. Это яхта ANATOLIA (SR350), - одна из четырех яхт представлявшей тогда СССР и занявшая 13-е место. А также яхта GEN MAR (I11917)(Италия) – занявшая 6-е место (яхта в 1992 была переименована в JONATHAN IV (ITA11197), а в 1993 году получила имя SCORPIO (POL391), с 2005 года UKR 495).

После 1991 года яхта Pepsi Challenge принимала участие преимущественно в региональных первенствах Греции. В 1995 году яхту переименовали в OKEANOS 2 (GRE494). По непроверенным данным с 1995 по 2001 год яхта практически не использовалась.

В 2001 году начался новый десятилетний этап в жизни яхты. При активном участии Олега Дымко яхта переехала в Киев и получила новое имя ОКЕАН (UKR132). Это было важное событие в яхтенной жизни Киева, поскольку яхт такого уровня в Украине тогда не было. С 2001 по 2010 яхта ОКЕАН становилась многократным призером и победителем HetmanCup и WindMasterRegatta, а также других региональных регат, которые проводятся в Украине. За это десятилетие в разное время в составе экипажа ОКЕАНА побывало много известных украинских яхтсменов: Александр Казнадей, Александр Сыч, Дмитрий Яровой, Василий Колобов, Юрий Удовицкий и другие.

В 2010 году владельцем, капитаном и рулевым яхты ОКЕАН стал Сергей Рубаник. И у яхты началась новая история. К этому времени двигатель на яхте уже отсутствовал, поэтому его вес пришлось частично компенсировать свинцовым балластом. Был проведен капитальный ремонт корпуса и практически полностью заменен бегучий такелаж. У известных парусных мастеров: Василия Кириенко и братьев Волошенюков были изготовлены комплекты парусов на разные погодные условия.

В 2011 году, при активном участии и помощи Максима Зинченко, на яхте ОКЕАН начал формироваться новый экипаж. Тактиком стал Виталий Безик, баковым - Дмитрий Аксенов, шкотовым - Александр Боголей. В 2013 на бак пришел Василий Бондарь, чуть позже пришел 2-й шкотовый – Евгений Суворов. Сейчас постоянный экипаж яхты ОКЕАН состоит из 5 человек.

В настоящее время яхта ОКЕАН дислоцируется в яхт-клубе «Юниор» (Киевское водохранилище). Яхта ОКЕАН успешно принимает участие практически во всех региональных регатах. Это «Кубок яхт-клуба Энергетик», регата памяти «На добрий спомин», «Південна Варта», другие соревнования. Крайним на сегодняшний день важным событием в новой истории яхты ОКЕАН было участие в Чемпионате Украины среди крейсерско-спортивных яхт по системе ORC, который проходил в Светловодске 3-9 июня 2016 года. На Чемпионате яхта ОКЕАН заняла 3-е место.

Касаемо планов на будущее, то их есть у ОКЕАНА. Но как говорил один нехороший политик: не будем говорить о плохом, - а лучше сделаем))
