Independence Day of Ukraine is our most important holiday. For 35 years now, we have had the right to live freely and speak freely in a democratic and civilized country. And for 12 years, we have been fighting to defend our independence.

Russia struck a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih in broad daylight today, killing 15 civilians, according to the latest reports this evening.

More than 130 people have been wounded, including 23 children.

I have no expectation of any special reaction from the world. There won’t be one. People will grieve for a moment, post their condolences, and move on. No one is going to avenge Ukrainians on behalf of Ukrainians.

President Zelenskyy has already said there will be a response. And rightly so.

It will not stop this war. There is no talk here of some higher form of justice — there is no justice in this world.

There is only a simple symmetry, multiplied by pain: an eye for an eye.

Ukraine has repeatedly shown that it knows how to strike back, and I have no doubt that the murder of civilians in Kryvyi Rih will not go unanswered.

The bitter irony is that with every act of blind brutality, the Russian leadership itself removes another restraint from Ukraine. We all know that Ukraine is capable of doing much more.

It can. But it deliberately chooses restraint.

And to those on the other side who read me: when it becomes painful, when it becomes unbearable, when you feel lost and alone, remember to thank Putin and the entire machinery that serves him.

Thank them from the bottom of your heart.

In 22 cities across Poland, demonstrations against violence toward Ukrainians took place.

The demonstrations were held under the slogan “Don’t Be Indifferent” and aimed to draw attention to cases of violence and discrimination against Ukrainians in Poland.

Earlier, on August 7, participants in the “My Poland Does Not Hit, Insult, or Incite” campaign submitted a petition with more than 11,000 signatures to the government and the Ministry of the Interior, calling for measures to be taken against attacks on Ukrainian citizens.

UN: Civilian Death Toll in Ukraine Reaches One of the Highest Levels Since the Start of the War

At least 265 civilians were killed and 1,816 injured in Ukraine as a result of Russian attacks in June, according to the United Nations. This marks one of the highest monthly civilian casualty totals since the beginning of the full-scale war. The number of civilian casualties has now risen for the third consecutive month, highlighting the continued escalation of the humanitarian impact of the conflict.

According to UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo, at least 265 civilians were killed and 1,816 injured in June. In May, the death toll stood at 274 civilians. The UN stressed that the June figures are preliminary and that the actual number of casualties may be significantly higher.

Overall, since the beginning of the full-scale war, the United Nations has verified the deaths of at least 16,402 civilians, including 802 children. A total of 48,428 people have been injured.

A total of 74 missiles were launched, including Zircon and Kalibr cruise missiles, Iskander ballistic missiles, as well as 496 drones. Residential buildings were hit directly. Eighty-six people were injured, and 13 civilians were killed. Rescue operations are still ongoing...
