It is with mixed feelings that we inform you that we won our court case against New Vision. So the justice has been served. To remind you, we leased all our equipment to New Vision so they can start Urban TV on our channel, as they take care of administration and costs.
New Vision immediately took all our content off-air in the name of testing the signal; this is the time they played music for a few months and ignored all our complaints, and yours.
When Urban TV bought a frequency from UBC they then started Bukedde 2, and during all that time they showed Ugandans very little of free-to-air sport that Sports TV had programmed 24 hours a day.
Finally, they breached the contract by taking Sports TV off-air completely in July 2013. They refused to return our equipment and we subsequently lost our broadcasting license because UCC had no way of inspecting our station, since all equipment like transmitter, antennae, satellite links and Studio-Transmitter-Link were still on their premises.
Finally, we took the case to court and it took five and a half years for the Commercial Court to make a decision.
While the judge ruled in our favour, we were inadequately compensated for our losses and were not put back at the status before the contract, but were seriously and severely set back. Unfortunately, the compensation is insufficient to make us start broadcasting again.
This is to tell all of our viewers and supporters that Sports TV can not resume broadcasting at the moment. This is a sad time for Ugandan free to air broadcasting space because we still believe sports is the best way to reach everyone's heart and bring a message of healthy living, healthy and fair competition, teamwork and togetherness.
We decided not to appeal the court decision because, clearly, we do not want to go through another long period of time, incurring further expenses without knowing the outcome till the last minute.
We shall miss you. This is the time to be emotional and even sad because a good thing has been destroyed. But hey, you never know, one day we might just bounce back!
We love you all!
Stay well, stay healthy, do your fitness exercises and don't forget to support Ugandan sportsmen and women whenever you have the opportunity!
This is all for now, till our next broadcast! Stay tuned!
We appeared in Commercial Court on 3rd April 2018 and we heard the defendant’s statements. We will submit our written case on 17th April and deadline for defense to submit theirs is 3rd May 2018. We will meet in Court one more time on 11th May 2018 after which, we shall wait for judgment. May justice finally prevail.
Today, 2pm. Commercial Court. Sports TV vs Vision Group. We are hearing the defendant's witnesses.
Yesterday 30th June 2017 we had another hearing in Commercial Court, in the case of Sports TV Uganda Limited vs New Vision Printing & Publishing Corporation.
Court session started a tad late due to the Defendant being late, but the Plaintiff still got the opportunity to present Sports TV case with two witnesses who were given a detailed and fair hearing.
Defendant didn't file any witness statements and therefore did not present any witnesses, so the court was adjourned to 4th September 2017.
We look forward to our next date in court.
2.30pm, Commercial Court, our director will give her statement for the first time since New Vision switched Sports TV off in July 2014. Justice is slow but steady and will reach us.
