THE PROPOSED LAW BANNING THE WEARING OF MINISKIRTS; IMPLICATIONS
The controversy on the proposed law banning the wearing of miniskirts stems from the various inspirations of fashion and design.
There are no strict restrictions on the style of dressing because dress code is determined greatly by religious, cultural and traditional beliefs of the people.
The constitution of the republic of Uganda guarantees respect for individual human rights among which is the right to belong, maintain and promote any religion, culture and tradition. [Articles 17(1), 29(1) (c) and 37]
Therefore, Ugandans enjoy the protection on what to wear in the spirit of religion, culture and tradition.
Thus, the ban on miniskirts in a country without official dress code is an opening to limitations on what to wear for whatever reason.
