An amazing journey- The opportunity for girls and women to play rugby
Sunday 14th August 2022
Tier 2 Women's XV'S rugby came to a beautiful conclusion at the Fisheries grounds in Bugonga in Entebbe. Each of the 4 participating teams had an opportunity to host one festival every two months to allow the teams to mobilize resources so as to ensure the success of the festivals. led the way on 6th Feb when we played in Jinja followed by a trip to Makerere University in Kampala hosted by on April 27th. We travelled to in Mbale where we were hosted by on June 6th. The grand finale was hosted yesterday by Swans Sports Club at the fisheries grounds in Bugongo, Entebbe.
Looking back at the journey, a lot of lessons have been picked up by the girls and women who have shown up with determination, zeal, focus and commitment to the game of rugby. The ladies have become more confident, made lots of friends, and traveled from one district to another (most of them for the very first to leave their home districts) and have gained invaluable experiences along the way.
Appreciation to the management teams of the 4 teams who have sacrificed so much financially, physically, psychologically and materially to make sure the festivals were successful against all odds. They overcame several challenges to ensure the girls have the opportunity to play and have fun while at it. To our dear parents and guardians who have supported the girls to travel out of home to play, you rock, keep up the good spirit. To our friends who supported us and cheered us on unreservedly (often times committing funds from their own pockets and preferring to stay anonymous) we can't thank you enough for the sacrifices you have made. To our volunteer coaches, referees and administrators, we couldn't have made it without you, we are humbled 🤗.
To all players who put their bodies on the field to try and play rugby, we believe you have enjoyed the start of your journey and you will stay, play rugby and become Unstoppable. To our media partners who helped us capture the moments and share with the world, fantastic job you have done. To our donors and sponsors, you made this experience memorable and worthwhile.
This whole experience has shown that even with very minimal resources, once there is passion, perserverance, commitment, determination and focus, something beautiful will emerge and thrive. We are very excited and looking forward to the next season of the ⁹Tier 2 women's XV's rugby in 2023.
