On the 23rd April at the Kampala Club tennis courts, day 5 of the Uganda National Tennis Championships ‘23 will showcase some of the championship’s biggest matches. With many Must-Watch matches scheduled, it is a pivotal day for most players in the championship as many will have to fight to stay in contention for the title and prized trip to France. Trevor Kazibwe, currently in top shape, will have the test of his life as he goes up against defending champion
Frank Tayebwa. Winning all their 4 previous matches already, both players are now faced with
the possibility of their first loss of the season.
At the bottom of the tables, Bob Matsiko, Said Mawa, Kato Said Musa and Hafiz Abdallah have
an opportunity to finally register a win, something that eluded them in their last four
matches.
For Winnie Birungi, losing to Alison Comfort recently at the launch of the UNTC ‘23 was her first domestic loss in years. Day 5 presents her with the perfect opportunity for revenge as she once
again takes on Alison in a highly anticipated clash.
Following their mixed fortunes this season, the mid table clashes, pitting Joel Mwisuke against Marvin Kiriwo and Arnold Jurua against Edward Birungi, present these seasoned competitors with a huge opportunity to realign their credentials.
Qualifying for the quarterfinals may be a tall order for them at this point, but Paul ssekandi and Francis Agonzebwa could use their day 5 clash to reignite their hopes for making the quarters.
With these and the other promising clashes, the action on day 5 of the UNTC is going to be
explosive. Starting at 12:00pm at the Kampala Club and dubbed “the Ladder-Special”, day 5 is going to be a celebration of tennis where the social tennis players of the Ladder Community,
in and around Kampala, will be appreciated for their role in keeping tennis alive and exciting
over the years. The general public is also invited to severe this great tennis action and join in the celebration. In addition to the entertaining tennis action on the courts, a sumptuous BBQ will be one of the highlights of the day.
The Uganda National Tennis Championship ‘23 is organised by Tena Tennis Academy Uganda in partnership with the Association Familiae de Turckheim (AFT) in France and the Uganda Tennis Association.
