Chilhowie and Christiansburg came to Castle Rock for a 2:00 showdown today. The Spartan Red and Blue teams walked away with their first match win of the year. The Red Team moved to 2-2 on the season after dropping a match last week. The Blue Team moved to 3-1.
The Red Team played all 18 holes, finishing with a team total 336. That was good enough for a 5 shot victory over second place Chilhowie.
The Spartans boasted medalist honors behind the steady play of senior one seed Aiden Frazier who shot 80🥇. Spartan two seed Colson Tickle finished second out of the 18 competitors with an 82. Three seed Addie Stinnett and five seed Brady Hogan both shot 87, good enough to tie for fifth individually.
The Blue Team rode the wave of a strong performance by two seed Bently Gilmore in their nine hole match. His 41 was good enough for medalist honors in the B team match. 🥇
The Spartans shot 186, 11 shots better than second place Chilhowie. Also turning in a great performance was freshman Grant Jennelle, whose 46 was a new personal best for his young high school career. He was third among the 15 competitor field.
Aidan Wurtz also posted a personal best with a 48 to tie for fourth overall. Senior Cameron Melton rounded out the scoring with his lowest showing of the season, shooting 51.
The Spartan Blue Team will travel to Sparta, NC on Thursday to take on several other MED teams in a match hosted by Grayson. The Red Team will next take the course on Monday in a district tilt at Wytheville Golf Club. Go Spartans!⛳️🏌️♂️

The Giles Blue team took on Christiansburg B and Auburn B teams at Castle Rock today in a 9 hole match. Auburn came out on top with a team total of 176, led by two seed Pettus who medaled shooting a 38.
Giles came in second with a 194, outpacing Christiansburg by 24 strokes. Red team regulars Bentley Gilmore and Camdyn Moye were at the top of the scoresheet for Giles. Gilmore shot a 46, good enough for 3rd in the match. Moye shot 48, which tied her for 4th. Freshman Grant Jennelle and junior Sloan Davis rounded out the scoring for the Spartans, each posting a 50.
Several other golfers on the 17 man roster also participated. The big guys and girls were followed up by our middle school players who put on a six-hole exhibition for their coaches and families.
It was a great time watching the development of several young golfers today. The future of Spartan golf is on the rise!📈⛳️

Spartan golfers took to the course today in the Spartan Throwback event at Giles Country Club. Giles took on old TRD rivals Radford and James River. The Spartans were at the tail of the field at the end of the day after shooting a team total 327.
James River won the match by shooting a solid 301 behind a -6 showing from medalist two seed Mason Gilliland. Radford tallied 313 to finish second.
Giles was once again led by their freshman one seed, Colson Tickle, who posted a +6 (77). Second seed Aiden Frazier pitched in with an 81, followed by third seed Brady Hogan who put up an 84. Fifth seed Quintan Farrell and sixth seed Addie Stinnett both shot 85, which was the fourth counting score. Four seed Wyatt McCroskey also played, shooting an 88.
The Spartan Blue squad takes the course tomorrow at 4:30 for a match against Auburn and Christiansburg at Castle Rock. Go Spartans!

Today's Giles Spartan Girls Invitational Tournament has been canceled due to several players dropping out. We will compete this Wednesday in the Giles Spartan Throwback against old TRD rivals Radford and James River. The match will be held at our old stomping grounds, the Giles Country Club!

Spartan golfers showed significant improvement at the Bank of Marion Tournament at Holston Hills Community Golf Club in Marion. The Spartans shot a team total 317, good enough for 3rd among 9 1A schools and 4th among all 17 competing schools. The Spartans also improved 31 shots from last year’s total of 348.
Freshman one seed Colson Tickle again led the way with a +1 (73). Senior Aiden Frazier came in right behind Tickle with a +3 (75). Third seed Brady Hogan shot 82 and fourth seed Wyatt McCroskey came in with 87. Fifth seed Camdyn Moye shot a career best 18 hole round of 88.
Giles will next host a ladies invitational on Friday at 10:00 at Giles Country Club. Come out and help support ladies golf!

Spartan varsity golf kicked off the season today at Wytheville Golf Club by participating in the Woodford Classic.
First seed Colson Tickle led the way with a +5 (75). Second seed Aiden Frazier and third seed Brady Hogan shot 83 and 85 respectively. Wyatt McCroskey rounded out the counting scores with a 91, giving the Spartans a team total of 334.
The team will take the course again on Monday at Holston Hills in Marion! Go Spartans!

Our 2026 Junior Golf Clinic at Castle Rock Golf Course has been canceled due to lack of interest. Middle school golfers who asked about participating, please get with your coaches about different workouts during the summer. All varsity golfers and parents are released from any prior plans regarding the clinic.
