Highlands Soccer Club reaches out with our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of one of our own, Kirk Nairn, who passed away suddenly on Thursday. Tonight, Abingdon High School Boys Soccer plays John Battle on the lower field at Sugar Hollow. This game is dedicated to Kirk. Please come out to support the memory of this outstanding young man who went far before his time.
"May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay
May you stay forever young"

Hello from Highlands Soccer Club!
For those of you who do not know me, I am David Nishida, the recently elected president of Highlands Soccer Club. I have been involved with the club since 2013 and have served as the club’s vice president for a number of years as well as coached both in the Rec and Challenge Programs. I look forward to working with you all to ensure HSC continues to be a positive and fun learning experience for your players and the community.
On behalf of HSC I would like to extend a sincere thank you to Joel Campbell for his many years of service as HSC President. Joel has spent countless hours of his own personal time devoted to HSC, and for that we are all grateful. Joel has agreed to serve on the HSC Board and continue to volunteer his time to ensure a smooth transition. Thank you Joel!!
I would also like extend a sincere thank you to Nico Leidig for volunteering to serve as HSC Vice President, David Childers for volunteering to serve as HSC Secretary, David Magee for continuing to volunteer as HSC Treasurer, Kevin Sigmon for continuing to volunteer as Referee Coordinator and Bruce Russell for continuing to serve on the HSC Board. HSC has a great team of volunteers, and we look forward to promoting the club’s continued success serving our community.
As you may know, HSC is run solely by generous volunteers. If anyone is interested in volunteering to serve the HSC community, please contact me. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Registration for the 2019 spring soccer season is now open. Please visit www.highlandssoccer.com to register. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Enroll” to set up your account and register. Please note that we have switched to a new registration system, Team Sideline. If you are a return player, you will have to create a new account to register.
Please note that if you are planning to register to play in the Challenge Program, you will be required to also play in the Recreation Program.
Please note that players who qualify for free/reduced lunch are not required to pay the registration fee. Please contact me at [email protected] prior to registering for instructions.
Please consider volunteering to coach this season. Registration fees are waived for head coaches. Please note that coaches are subject to background checks. Coaches are also required to take online concussion and abuse prevention training. Please contact me at [email protected] for instructions on how to register and receive the fee waiver.
We will not be offering socks this year for purchase through the registration system. We do, however, have a box of new socks from past seasons available for players to search for a suitable pair. We also have a used gear exchange for players to donate unwanted gear available for any player to use. Near the beginning of the season we will provide a time for the equipment exchange and for players to pick up shorts and socks.
Kevin Sigmon, HSC Referee Coordinator, asked that we reach out to the club to see who may be interested in becoming a referee. As many of you know, a number of our referees also play soccer for their high school in the spring. We therefore are in serious need for additional referees this season. Please consider serving as a referee. To become a referee you are required to attend training and earn a referee certification. Referees are paid on a per game basis. If you are interested, please contact Kevin Sigmon at 276-623-3412 or [email protected] more information. It is an excellent opportunity to help your soccer community and earn some extra money.
Please note that on the new HSC Homepage there is a tab called “Text Sign Up”. If you wish to receive important HSC messages via text in addition to email, please sign up.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Thank you,
David

Welcome to our new club president, “Daring” Dave Nishida! Long may he reign! Other new officers are Nico “Dave” Leidig* (Vice President), Dave Childers (Secretary), and Dave McGhee (Treasurer). Bruce Russell remains as legal counsel and advisor. We look forward to a smooth transition and continued growth for both our club and the game of soccer in the region!
Many thanks to our president for the past several years, Joel “The Machine” Campbell. He is now President Emeritus, and will continue to help us with his wisdom and experience.
*Nico has adopted the name “Dave” for all club business in order to show unity with the other officers. Not really.
