💥💥What attracted you to Reach Athletics?

I first joined the Reach family when it was Robby and Dan doing TNT Bootcamp classes upstairs in the office building. Our friends Karen and Brad Martin were members so Susan and I bought Groupons to give it a try and loved it. Dan says that makes me an OG. A year later Robby told us all he was moving us down to the garage and changing the format to this thing called "CrossFit" where we'd get to use barbells and have a real rig. I was intrigued and remember helping carry the kettlebells down on moving day. It was a tight squeeze in that space, but I was addicted to CrossFit from day one. While the workouts are great, what keeps me here are the truly awesome people in the Reach community. In fact, we've been contemplating downsizing and moving closer to the city, but haven't pulled the trigger because I don't want to leave all the great friends I have here.

💥💥 What is your least favorite CrossFit movement?

HSPU, or any variation that puts me upside down because it makes me dizzy.

💥💥 Which classes during the week would someone most likely see you at?

For the last 5 years you're most likely to see me at 9:30am. If I can't make that I'll do noon or 4:00. I'm almost certain you'll never see me at 5:30am, though I feel like I'm missing out on some great comradery among that crew.

💥💥What is your favorite CrossFit moment so far?

At 56, I'm thrilled to have notched Deadlift and Power Clean PRs in the last year. But what brings me the most joy is a scene like this: one of our workout buddies approaches a heavy lift or gymnastics move they haven't hit before, a look of trepidation on their face, we're all cheering them on, and they nail it. Fist bumps all around (remember those?). Especially when it is someone without much athletic background who achieves something basic they never thought possible.

💥💥What type of music do you enjoy working out to?

I like any music that takes my mind off how my body is feeling. But when I'm the DJ, as I was a couple times in Dina's Sunday morning classes this summer, I play 80's Classic Rock.

💥💥Name a favorite movie and why?

The Da Vinci Code. I love piecing together clues to make a discovery.

💥💥Where is your favorite vacation destination?

Costa Rica: combining adventures, rain forest, volcanoes, and beaches all in one trip.

💥💥What do you do for work?

I start, grow, and sell software companies. I'm the founder and CEO of SlapFive which makes cloud software for marketing automation. I also serve on the advisory boards of several other software start-up companies.

💥💥 What would be your dream job?

Playing on the PGA tour. But since that ain't happenin, after I sell my current company, I plan to do my dream job, which is to be an angel investor where I fund and guide start-up companies founded by first-time entrepreneurs who don't have access to traditional venture capital.

💥💥What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Kimball Farms Mocha Chip. A close second is Kimball's Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Yogurt.

💥💥 What are your hobbies outside of the gym?

Pre-COVID, my favorite activity outside the gym was playing Volleyball. Since COVID, I needed a socially distanced activity so I took up golf, and am surprised how much I like it given I always viewed it as an old-people's sport. I guess the shoe fits.

💥💥 Where did you grow up?

I grew up on Cape Cod in the town of Yarmouth. My family owned dinner theaters and I worked every job on the restaurant side of the house.

💥💥 What is one piece of advice that you would give to someone who is thinking about joining Reach Athletics?

I always introduce myself to people who are doing a few classes to test it out, and say: "If you are serious about wanting to improve your physical AND mental health, join now, because IMO there is no better way to stay motivated to put in the work and get the results than to be part of an incredibly supportive community of fantastic coaches and members like we have here at Reach." I also tell people who are in my generation that to avoid injuries, you can and should scale workouts to a level that challenges but doesn't break you.

💥💥 What is your least favorite CrossFit movement? Overhead squats.

💥💥 Which classes during the week would someone most likely see you at? 5 pm.

💥💥 What type of music do you enjoy working out to? The coaches have really good playlists.

💥💥 Name a favorite movie and why? Madame Secretary. Sterling leadership qualities, problem-solving over partisanship, and family values.

💥💥 Where is your favorite vacation destination? Italy!

💥💥 What are your hobbies outside of the gym? 1000-piece puzzles, reading, and outdoor sports: biking, hiking, skiing, waterskiing, sailing.

💥💥 Where did you grow up? Connecticut, college in Vermont.

💥💥What is one piece of advice that you would give to someone who is thinking about joining Reach Athletics? (I have 5) 1. The coaching and community at Reach are excellent. 2. Don’t worry about lifting heavy – work on form, 3. Compete with yourself not others, 4. Stay consistent, 5. ROMWOD stretching is worth it!

💥💥 What attracted you to Reach Athletics?

When I moved to Acton a few years ago, my old gym (Crossfit Nashua) referred me. They weren’t wrong 😉

💥💥 What is your least favorite CrossFit movement?

I struggle with most Olympic lifts, but I’ve got to say snatches are my least favorite.

💥💥 Which classes during the week would someone most likely see you at?

I’m usually a 12:00 class but this distance learning/hybrid school year has thrown the whole schedule in flux. 4:00 is the safest bet lately.

Kettlebell swings. I LOVE THEM. Gimme some assault bike & KB swings and I’m in.

💥💥 What type of music do you enjoy working out to?

Pop remixes

💥💥 Name a favorite movie and why?

It’s a wonderful life. My mom and I used to watch it at least once every Christmas and I will always have a soft spot for a George Bailey.

💥💥 Where is your favorite vacation destination?

That is a tough question to ask while we have travel limitations! My favorite trip so far has been the Maldives but I can’t wait for the next adventure once we are able.

💥💥 What do you do for work?

I head up legal and compliance for a software company.

I love cooking, scrabble, running & skiing

CrossFit TV Commercial, 'Chuck'

What is CrossFit to you?

Part of what I love about CrossFit is the people it attracts. We work hard and expect a lot from ourselves and others. If someone doesn't complete a movement correctly it is a "no rep". When members of our community to things that are not alright we also say "no rep".

Earlier this year, we as a community rallied to say "no rep/not okay" to some things that were happening within the CrossFit world. We chase virtuosity, we demand better. We, as a community, have a lot of work to do but the process has begun. We must continue to demand more.

There are awesome organizations like the Atlanta Leadership Club, Foster Fit, Steve's Club and others.

Just as the physical capacity of CrossFit has evolved, so too will the social and emotional capacities. Let us stand together to strive for virtuosity in all that we do.

At Reach Athletics we do tough things because they are the RIGHT thing to do.

What attracted you to Reach Athletics?

Six months before I joined Reach my husband started going to Tilt Waltham. He instantly liked crossfit and would come home and teach me the movements. We then realized that I needed a more formal environment to do the workouts and that's how I landed at reach.

The reach community has been so amazing that i look forward to my workout everyday. For e.g., I used to not like partner workouts as I felt that i would slow down my partner. But the partners have always been so understanding and never made me feel like i was slowing them down.

What is your least favorite CrossFit movement?
Burpees lol

Which classes during the week would someone most likely see you at?
I mostly come at 730 am. Sometimes at noon, 930 or 7 pm if I can't make it at 7:30. I try to come 6 days a week.

What is your favorite CrossFit moment so far?
Farmers carry

What type of music do you enjoy working out to?
Linkin park, avenged sevenfold, five finger death punch, Metallica, Red hot chili peppers etc. Coach Kevin's music choices are my favorite :)

Name a favorite movie and why?

"Moneyball" is one of my favorite movies. I love math and seeing how it can be applied to real life situations to drive results is why I like the movie

Where is your favorite vacation destination?

Turks and Caicos

What do you do for work?

I am an analytics and artificial intelligence pre sales product specialist for a company called Salesforce which builds software for customer relationship management.

What would be your dream job?
Exactly what i do now :). I am lucky to be doing my dream job.

What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Butter Pecan flavor at Westside creamery is my favorite.

What are your hobbies outside of the gym?
Cooking and studying. I am currently pursuing my masters in artificial intelligence.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in India and moved to the states in 2005. We lived in Arizona and Connecticut before moving to Massachusetts.

What is one piece of advice that you would give to someone who is thinking about joining Reach Athletics?

I was never really an athletic person and crossfit at reach was my first foray into physical fitness. During my first class I noticed people lifting heavy and I was intimidated by that. But the coaches advised me to take it slow, lift light and compete only with myself. With every workout I keep getting stronger and I now have the confidence to increase weights although slowly. I set up small goals for myself every few weeks and try to stick to it. For e.g. currently i am trying to do a 300 meter run without taking a break and I am getting there :). My only wish is that some day I will be able to do pull up on my own lol.

Please join me in congratulating our winners of the 800gram challenge (three way tie!) Nicole Kelly Max Tuefferd and Janelle Amidon Kapusta!

Janelle:
"I will absolutely stick with getting the 800g daily because it has also helped me immensely with my running training. I am definitely fueling my body better and more efficiently. I also just feel better."

Max:
"I dropped about 10 pounds. And this is a trajectory, not an endpoint. In some ways, this challenge meant eating more food than I might otherwise, but the quality was consistently so much better than usual (this was probably 30-50% more fruits and veggies than I would normally have) that it made a huge difference."

Nicole:
"I can’t thank you and everyone else involved for offering the 800g challenge. I have tried countless “diets” and fitness challenges in the past but I’ve always fallen off the wagon. Thank you for creating the environment for me to prove to myself that I can stick to a program. I originally wanted to try the 800g challenge on my own and I honestly doubt I would’ve been able to stick to it for a full 28 days, but now tracking what I eat is part of my everyday routine. I’ve never been more proud of myself and I hope the other 800g challenge members are proud of their accomplishments as well!"

We couldn’t agree more ❤️❤️❤️

One health psychologist says exercise does far more than make us physically stronger and healthier. It can also generate hope, happiness, a sense of purpose, greater life satisfaction and connection with others.
