Thanks to Dai Si-Fu Jeff Webb again for another great Winter Camp at the NVTO headquarters in Austin, Texas! An awesome Bart Cham Dao session, and getting to train Long Pole outside at night, really pushing the tactile reflexes in low light conditions was quite an experience!

Got lots of details on the Biu Tze form and applications, as well as a ton of questions answered!

Always more to work on and train!

⚡️25 days of Christmas Wooden Dummy Exercises for Beginners⚡️

Merry Christmas!!! Day twenty-five and the last day of our 25 days of Christmas Wooden Dummy exercises for beginners series shows a Jum-Sau Kau-Sau Bong-Sau Lap-Da flow drill.

This exercise isn't really application oriented. It's more to train a flow of sensitivity between movements when you run into an obstruction with your arm.

Like always, it's important to coordinate the hand techniques with the footwork for a full-body unity.

As this is the end of our series, I would like to point out that this isn't every possible thing you can do training with a Wooden Dummy. Maybe it gave you some ideas of things you can try yourself and mix and match different techniques to make your own sequence for something specific you feel the need to work on.

None of this has been specifically the Wooden Dummy Form, but once you learn the Form, you have even more things to train! This series is just to give you something you can do until then, and to show that you're not limited to only training the Form either. There's nothing mystical or forbidden about working with this piece of training equipment! Use it as the training tool that it is and practice. Merry Christmas!

⚡️25 days of Christmas Wooden Dummy Exercises for Beginners⚡️

Day twenty-four of our 25 days of Christmas Wooden Dummy exercises for beginners series shows transitioning back and forth between Bong-Sau and Tan-Sau.

One benefit of training with the Wooden Dummy is that you get to practice coordinating your arms with your legs. This exercise is a great way to do that. In Wing Chun we have positions/poses with the arms, but even more important is the way you transition from one position to the next, without leaving any hole for the opponent's pressure to find a gap and strike you.

With contact on the outside of your arm, there are two possible techniques that can be derived based on the direction (left or right) of your opponent’s pressure. These two techniques are called Bong-Sau (Wing-Arm) and Tan-Sau (Palm-Up Arm), and the transitions between them is worth spending a lot of time practicing.

⚡️25 days of Christmas Wooden Dummy Exercises for Beginners⚡️

Day twenty-three of our 25 days of Christmas Wooden Dummy exercises for beginners series is the First Attack from the first Chi-Sau section with a Tan-Da as a follow up attack.

Our lineage of Wing Chun has what we call Chi-Sau Sections. They are basically two-man form sensitivity drills. This video shows a way to practice the application of the first movement from this 1st Chi-Sau Section.

Usually the first technique you learn in a martial art is the most important. This technique is no exception. The versatility of the application where it works on punches and shoves, allows you to easily and effortless ward off his attack and give a counter attack. The Tan-Da is an added bonus for a follow up, if your palm strike landed successfully.

⚡️25 days of Christmas Wooden Dummy Exercises for Beginners⚡️

Day twenty-two of our 25 days of Christmas Wooden Dummy exercises for beginners series is the Gwat-Da.

A lot of beginners struggle with the Gwat-Da. Again the Jum-Sau is essential here. With a good Jum-Sau, the Gwat-Sau can start from a good position.

Many people push sideways with the Gwat-Sau and this allows the opponent to use your force to hit you back. It's important that the Gwat-Sau goes low and into the opponent's body when executed.

On top of all this, you want to coordinate the power of the stance turning into the Gwat-Da for a heavy strike and a Gwat-Sau that can rip their shoulder out of socket!
