Memorial Day is ONE WEEK AWAY, and at our box, that means it’s time for our annual Memorial Day Murph.
This is easily one of the most special days of the year for our community. It’s a day where we sweat, we grind, and most importantly, we come together to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and for our country.
Why do we do MURPH?
For those who are new to the gym or the workout, “Murph” is a CrossFit Hero WOD named in honor of Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy.
Lt. Murphy was a dedicated officer and a fierce CrossFit athlete (he originally called this workout “Body Armor”). On June 28, 2005, while leading a four-man reconnaissance team in Afghanistan, his team was ambushed by a large enemy force. Despite being severely wounded, Lt. Murphy knowingly stepped into the open into direct enemy fire to make a satellite phone call to get help for his team. His bravery saved lives, and he was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
When we do this workout, we aren’t just trying to get a good sweat. We are remembering Lt. Murphy, his men, and every single service member who never made it home.
Feeling Apprehensive? Please Don’t Be!
I know that looking at the workout on paper can be incredibly intimidating. If you are feeling nervous or thinking, “There is no way I can do that,” I want to stop you right there: You absolutely can, and you absolutely belong here on Monday.
The beauty of CrossFit (just like in everyday class) is that everything is infinitely scalable. The goal of Murph is about the shared effort and the tribute—not about destroying your body. We have options for every single fitness level, and our coaches will be there to help you find the perfect fit.

Ada Valley CrossFit fam, it’s time to shift into high gear! We’re hosting an exclusive in-house competition on Friday, May 29th, and the stakes are literally “step up” your game!!
We are partnering with R.A.D® to give away three pairs of their premium training shoes to our community. Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or just here for the Friday night vibes, this one is for you.
The WOD:

Nine years ago today, we officially became a CrossFit Affiliate.
But if you ask us, this anniversary isn’t about the “9” on the calendar or the “2017” on the certificate. It’s about belief.
