Your Sunday reminder health is about the tings you do consistently. It’s not always exciting but our daily habits either take care of us or hurt us.

Be intentional about what strengthens your body, health matters.

Movement matters, the foods you eat matter, the sleep you get matters, the people you spend time with matters.

Build that house.

Friday Farmers Market finds:

Sooo I had picked up a cantaloupe to make my cucumber cantaloupe Summer soup but somehow the cantaloupe never made it into the bag 😔.

On the upside picked up some “bumble gum“ plums & plums are good for energy with a low glycemic index, a good carb for lasting energy & good for hydration.

And new berries showed up this week, blackberries that taste so much better than store bought!

What Summer produce are you using?

As we look at foods for workout energy, the 1st and very important macronutrient are Carbs!!!

Complex carbs for lasting energy so 1-3 hours before a workout

Simple carbs for quick energy 30-60 minutes before a workout

And the same principles apply post workout except it’s important to get some sort of carb in within that 1 hour post workout.

The difference is will you need to digest quicker if it’s close to bedtime or is there time to digest the food properly?

I will be asking for what you are eating carb wise before & after your workouts & the timing of these meals.

Carbs are what gives you energy if you are skimping on carbs your limiting your workouts & your workout recovery.

Stop thinking old school! If you aren’t sure what a healthy carb is, Whole Foods not ultra processed is what you need to remember!

Our exercise of the month is plank with a weight pass.

Works the core, back & shoulders & since quite a few of the team selected a core focus for their personal challenge seems like good one for the month.

Key is is to resist twisting when you move that weight!

New month new focus. This month we return to a nutrition focus.

And while we have looked at fueling in the past for exercise the science keeps updating so we need to keep learning & tweaking what we do.

Plus if we fuel well for our workouts, we enjoy them more & if we eat well post workout for recovery we can bounce back to exercise without much issue.

Smart fueling is part of living & moving well.

Stay tuned.

Big shout out to my runners this morning, none of them called out because of the rain 🌧️ & we were rewarded for it.

Turned out to be a beautiful morning to run. Always show up, because you just never know what the day will bring.

Friday Farmers Market finds: super rushed this morning but there’s always a new treasure in the mix.

This week slight switch out on the beans to pink cranberry beans…great for heart health, blood sugar regulation & digestion.

I also picked up 1 ear of corn 🌽 I don’t buy this a lot but corn on the cob does have great fiber & plant based protein. So shuck away!

And look at that nice mix of color, remember eat the rainbow 🌈

While a bit of a challenging week I did want to officially kick off our personal fitness challenges.

Part of the benefits of this exercise is while consistency is important for our health, variety in how we train also plays an important role.

Runners can’t just run, weightlifters can’t just lift, yogis can’t just stretch, we need variety in what we do and while it doesn’t have to be in equal measures, the more you can mix in then the better it is for your health and quality of life.

I don’t just run or lift, right…I swim, bike, row, stretch, jump rope, do agility, etc. it’s all part of the mix and I try & bring that to you as much as I can in our programming, so let’s make the most of what you picked for yourself.

Happy to say finished another triathlon, a few challenges along the way but the tri will do that 😜.

Nice weather for it & happy to still make the effort on this type of race. 🏊‍♀️🚴🏃‍♀️

The next 2 team members I want to highlight for their personal fitness challenge are Maria & Liz.

They both are looking to increase their running days. Both only do 1 run class a week, but they will start transitioning next month to 1 extra run on their own & then a final 3rd run in September.

For Liz she is new to running & looking to make it part of her fitness routine.

For Maria while an experienced runner she hasn’t given it that extra attention it needs to help her improve on her endurance & pace.

Wishing them success on their goals! All runs don’t need to be the same but they do need to be varied so that’s why it’s helpful to run more than once a week if we want to be successful.
