Paradise Creek: project complete. 🙌

The third culvert is finished, and Trout Unlimited Arizona has confirmed the project was a success.

Trout Unlimited Arizona worked with the White Mountain Apache Tribe to take on and complete this project, which is designed to improve passage for native Apache trout on the Tribe’s lands.

We’ve been proud to work with Arizona Trout Unlimited in support of this effort. Swipe through for a look at the finished work.

To everyone who donated, helped raise funds, shared the project, or supported it along the way: thank you. You helped make this possible, and we wanted you to see what that support helped accomplish.

A huge thank you to the White Mountain Apache Tribe, Trout Unlimited Arizona, and every partner, crew member, and volunteer who brought this project across the finish line.

And there’s more ahead. We’re working toward another project with Trout Unlimited in Arizona and New Mexico. Details to come.

For now, this is a moment to celebrate. Thank you for being part of it.

They just erased 3 million acres.

On July 13, Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante, sacred land, 100,000+ cultural sites, homelands stewarded by Tribal Nations since time immemorial, were cut by roughly 90% each.

We’ve been here before. The 2017 cuts were reversed. This one can be too, but only if people are paying attention.

That’s why we partnered with The Wilderness Society on this collection.

Why is he riding backwards?

Every part of the Contrary design comes from a real story, the backwards ones of the Plains. Warriors who dreamed of the Thunder Beings and lived life in reverse to keep that vow: said no when they meant yes, charged when others fell back, rode facing their horse’s tail.

The Cheyenne knew them as the HohnĂłhka, keepers of the Thunder Bow. The Crow had the Crazy Dogs Wishing to Die. The Lakota heyĂłka turned backwards ways into sacred laughter that kept the proud humble.

And the lightning bolt? That’s the mark of the thunder they answered to. It’s the whole reason he’s backwards in the first place.

The Contrary.

In many Native communities, the contrary rode into battle facing backwards. Did everything in reverse. Said yes when they meant no. Not to be strange… to remind the people that following the crowd isn’t the same as being right.

That’s the story behind this one. Our mission with these designs is to bring the stories of our past back to life, and this one felt like it was made for right now.

When everyone follows blindly, be bold and do the opposite.

Be contrary.
