Life often feels like a storm, relentless and unforgiving—winds howling, waves crashing, and pressures mounting from all sides. In those moments, it’s easy to feel like I’m drowning, like the weight of everything is too much to bear. But I’m learning that the real strength doesn’t lie in fighting the storm—it’s in learning how to stand firm in its midst. Patience is my compass, resilience my sail, and calm my anchor.
This lesson is something I’ve learned on the mat, as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, where I’ve faced moments of extreme pressure. Whether caught in a chokehold or pinned beneath an opponent, the instinct to panic is always there. But true strength comes from stillness—the ability to breathe, to think, and to adapt. Just like in Jiu-Jitsu, life throws its own chokeholds—times when everything feels overwhelming, when the odds seem insurmountable. But I’ve come to understand that the key is not to resist the pressure, but to move with it, to stay calm, and to trust that a way forward will appear.
Right now, I find myself in a situation where the pressures life seem insurmountable. like they are closing in. Pressures from fighting for my family, the legal system, and personal challenges are all pushing down on me, making it hard to breathe. There’s a temptation to panic, to push harder or react impulsively. But I remind myself to apply the principles I’ve learned through Jiu-Jitsu: Stay present, stay calm, and focus on what I can control. Just like when I’m stuck in a tough position on the mat, the answer isn’t to fight the pressure head-on—it’s to breathe through it, assess the situation, and find the best possible angle to move forward.
I’m learning to trust that, like on the mat, this pressure is temporary, and that I don’t need to break under it. I just need to stay grounded and keep moving, one step at a time. It’s not about avoiding the storm, but about learning how to navigate it with quiet confidence and resilience.
