Hope all of you are doing well, we will never forget how the world had changed after this weekend. Wonder where we would be at if covid didnt hit.
This was taken at the open/novice tournament March 2020 (the first weekend of spring break). We had a lot of people for it and against it, but glad Aiea decided to hold the one and only tournament of 2020. That week the world shutdown and this was the last time we seen this group together.
Drop in once in a while say hi to all your coaches/senseis, old teammates, and future players.
As Sensei Dustin always says “Practice doesn’t make perfect, it creates habits. Practice good habits and you’ll get as close to perfection as possible.”
Don’t just go through the motion. Have some effort and thought behind it, create a purpose, and your results will show.
We are always growing, always learning.
Got sent this! How’s this for a gem. Recognize these two, and where they are?
They will always be a part of the fam. Lets see if anyone recognizes our Kurobis.
Hope to see all of you soon!
Shoutout to our competitors this last tournament. They all fought well, and whether they won or loss they represented themselves very well.
Keep up the great work, we are all proud of you!
A little over one year ago Sensei Malia headed out to her first international tournament on the IJF (International Judo Federation) tour. Oberwart, Austria. Give her a follow as she will be continuing her journey, and even stop to ask her about all her travels, as I’m sure she’s been to some interesting countries.
We are all rooting for you Sensei Malia!
Sensei Dustin, and brothers Sensei Dillon, Sensei Dalton, and Sensei Adonis!

Don’t assume you’ll get an Ippon, transition from tachiwaza to newaza.
Great job to one of our many boss ladies.

1 month ago, Sensei Malia had an amazing opportunity to train at Tokyo Gakugei University. Home of multiple world champion and Olympic champion hopeful Natsumi Tsunoda.
Not only are the girls one of the toughest in Judo they are also one of the sweetest. They welcomed Sensei Malia with open arms and throws, and they treated her as a friend and sister.
Thank you Tokyu Gakugei for taking care of our Sensei, and hope you are able to join us in Hawaii one day.

Can’t wait until Honpa becomes the tournament it once was. Let’s all continue to support this amazing tournament and keep tradition alive. October 7th, 2023, Puna Hongwanji. Can you spot any of the Senseis, recognize someone you know?
This past Sunday came in full force. For our Judoka we entered 7 and got 6 golds. What made the Senseis even prouder is regardless of winning or losing they came off the mat with integrity, and openness to learn more.
Keep continuing to grow, and you will become not only amazing Judoka, but an amazing person as well.
Last week participated in a practice shiai hosted by leeward judo club.
Win or Lose our students did very well, and showed what hard work can accomplish.
Tomorrow will be the first club tournament since summer break. Gambatte and do your best!
We heard Sensei Dustin's youngest brother popped up at club. One day the 3 brothers will be on the mat together again.
LOL...
Aiea misses you Bobby, and the brown ohana.
That’s young SENSEI GIMA!
Last Honpa in Big Island had a blast, and came back with some hardware. We hope that this tournament can be as big as it once was. Let’s goooooooooo!

Last week Sensei Dustin and Sensei Malia got to reconnect with the Brown family, and Sensei Jota in Tokyo, Japan. Look at how big everyone got, especially Bobby!
Bobby will be entering his first year of high school (Hawaii he would be a sophomore) and Rey is heading into Junior High.
They will always be apart of our family, and we will support their journey from Hawaii.
Take care everyone, and we miss you here.
fam,
We would like to congratulate our newest Kurobi Linda on her promotion to Shodan. Linda joined Aiea Hongwanji Judo Club when it first opened, and rejoined us when her children were old enough to participate in Judo.
Thank you Linda for all that you do for Aiea Hongwanji on and off the mat.
Also congratulation to our Judoka on their promotions as well.
Continue to be the best that you can be in anything you do. We’ve watched you grow from the day you stepped onto the mat, to what you are today. Continue to train hard, be good people, guide the ones that follow, and give back to the ones before you.

AHJC - Aiea Hongwanji Judo Club
Thank you for being a sanctuary — a place that we can disconnect & escape from the world & worries & reconnect with ourselves. A place that we can all count on to be there for us no matter when we first stepped foot or our current circumstances. Thank you for being a place of gathering — bringing together families & individuals from all walks of life onto the mat to share Judo & life. Thank you for being a place that breaks us but builds us at the same time — blood, sweat & tears; frustration & success; pain & strength. The gratitude goes on.
