The summer has come to an end for local baseball and softball players who took part in American Legion baseball and softball. Each of the team had varying degrees of success that led to exciting playoff runs. (Full story below.)

Not the outcome we wanted today but man what a ride by these young men. Lost to a very good Ft Mill team.

Incredible season. From our first practice on May 12 to today's game... I've enjoyed every second.

First time back in the Elite 8 of the SC American Legion State Tournament of the AAA (17U) since 2017.

First year as Aiken Baseball Club

ABC is here and will continue to prosper in years to come in part to what these kids accomplished this season and over the last 3 seasons.

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA Fall After Strong Showing By Post 7 AAA 17U

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA couldn't keep up with Post 7 AAA 17U and fell 9-0 on Tuesday at Current Location.

Post 7 AAA 17U were the first to get on the board in the first when Logan Taylor doubled, scoring one run.

A ground out by Cannon Britt, and a double by DJ Jennings helped Post 7 AAA 17U extend their early lead in the second.

Chase Rice earned the win for Post 7 AAA 17U. The righty allowed one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking two. Bryson Swearingen took the loss for Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA. The starting pitcher went three innings, surrendering four runs on four hits, striking out two and walking two.

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA's Blake Freeland, the number eight hitter, led Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA with two hits in three at bats. Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA turned one double play in the game.

DJ Jennings provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Post 7 AAA 17U with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Logan Taylor, Jones Bell, and DJ Jennings each collected two hits for Post 7 AAA 17U. Post 7 AAA 17U didn't commit a single error in the field. Kelysn Felton had the most chances in the field with seven.

With rain on the field now and more rain coming, our game tonight vs Lexington Post 7 at Gilbert HS has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 630 at Gilbert HS.

Aiken Baseball Club AAA plays tomorrow at 630 vs Lexington Post 7 at GILBERT HS.

Double Elimination State Tournament for the Final 8

Have to win at least 1 of the first 2 to make it to Riley Park.

First 2 games (win or lose) will be at the higher seeds HOME field.

This is the First time since 2017 an Aiken County AAA (17U) Legion Team has made the Final 8.

The Aiken Baseball club survives and advances past Dutch Fork Post 193 to the next round of the American Legion playoffs, where they’ll face a dominant Lexington Post 193. (Full story below.)

This Aiken Baseball Club AAA (17U) American Legion team that Robbie Yarborough and I are coaching this summer has been one incredible ride.

And that ride just kept rolling — we’re headed to the Final 8 and the SC American Legion State Tournament!

Out of 40 teams in SC AAA (17U), 24 advanced to the playoffs. Eight teams got first-round byes, and the other 16 played a Wild Card game to advance to a best-of-3 series against the #1 seeds. We had to win the Wild Card as the #2 seed and then beat the #1 seed to keep going.

Well… we did.

Now it’s down to the Final 8. And we’re one of them!

Ten of these current players started with us three years ago on the Aiken County Post 26/153 AA (15U) team. This is my third year coaching Legion with these kids, and it’s been a joy watching them grow into fine young men and ballplayers. The difference from three years ago to now is huge — and I’m loving every bit of it.

I had the privilege of coaching that 15U team alongside Zachary Holley, Clay Whitt and Richard Abney. That group went on to win the SC American Legion AA State Championship — the first Legion state title for Aiken County since 1996!

That foundation is what we’re building on right now. Last year in AAA we got bounced in the first round, but we knew if most of those kids came back, we’d have something special.

Boy, do we ever.

From those early practices at Horse Creek to settling in at South Aiken High… from all the different personalities on this team to the great kids and ballplayers they’ve become… from the parents to the sponsors who took a chance on the Aiken Baseball Club… it’s been simply incredible. These are young men you love being around — on and off the field.

A huge thank you to my awesome wife, Melissa Carver Bryan for heading up concessions (with help from Jenny Graham Yarborough), and to our two awesome grill masters, Trae Boozer and Jimmy Starlings. Also thanks to Tim Crane on the PA with Steve Deibel helping out. Y’all have been amazing.

And of course, none of this happens without the Lord’s blessing. I know we all have our callings, but coaching these kids — in football, basketball, and baseball — is mine. I love every minute of it. I’m thankful every single day to be able to do what I love, and to do it alongside my brother Robbie on this HECK of a HEATER we’re on right now!

We’ve got players from South Aiken, Midland Valley, Strom Thurmond, Fox Creek, Horse Creek, and Silver Bluff. It’s awesome to see this kind of turnout from across the area.

A big thanks to everyone who has helped and supported us — schools, organizations, and so many generous people.

I know travel ball is a blast and a lot of people think you have to play it to get better (both of my boys did/do, and I even started a travel team back in 2016). But don’t sleep on American Legion Baseball.

7 innings. No ties. No time limits. NFHS rules. Real varsity-level baseball played during the week.

And the cost? Just $150.

We’re already looking forward to next summer and fielding a 19U team. A lot of these seniors will still be eligible — you can play as long as you don’t turn 19 at any point during the 2027 calendar year.

I know this post is long (and I’m a talker when it comes to something I’m passionate about), but I wanted to share it from the heart.

Freeland Leads Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA Past Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA

Blake Freeland collected three hits in four at bats, as Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA defeated Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA 10-7 on Friday. Blake Freeland doubled in the seventh inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the third inning.

A single by Jeremiah Yarborough put Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA on the board in the top of the first.

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Rylan Randael laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Bryson Swearingen singled to center field, each scoring one run.

Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to a walk by Sam Scholtz, a single by Lee Poyner, and a single by Banks Head.

In the bottom of the third, Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA broke up the tie when Gibson Brace singled, scoring one run. Then a single by Ryland Tackett followed to extend the lead to 5-3.

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA took the lead, 7-5, in the top of the fourth thanks to singles by Lincoln Crane, Jake Bryan, and Blake Freeland.

Lucas Fultz singled down the right field line following a 6-pitch at-bat, which helped Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA tie the game at seven in the bottom of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA broke up the tie when Bryson Swearingen scored after tagging up. Then a double by Blake Freeland followed to extend the lead to 10-7.

Macon Williams earned the win for Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA. The left-handed pitcher surrendered three hits and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking none. Timmy Hicks pitched four innings in relief for Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA. The pitcher allowed 13 hits and five runs while, striking out three and walking none. Gibson Brace took the loss for Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA. The hurler went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking two. Rylan Randael opened the game for Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA. The starter gave up three hits and two runs over one and one-third innings, striking out none and walking three.

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA collected 14 hits in the game. Easton Arbaugh, Chris Hair, Lincoln Crane, and Bryson Swearingen each collected multiple hits for Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA. Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Macon Williams and Bryson Swearingen led the team with two bases on balls each. Easton Arbaugh and Bryson Swearingen each stole multiple bases for Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA. Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA turned one double play in the game. Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA didn't commit a single error in the field. Lincoln Crane had the most chances in the field with six.

Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA amassed 19 hits in the game. Gibson Brace went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA in hits. Brody Ahrens and Reese Bonner each collected multiple hits for Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA. Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA turned one double play in the game. Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Max Verburg had the most chances in the field with six.

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA's effort to come back from down six runs in the fourth inning came up just short, as they fell 6-4 to Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA on Thursday at South Aiken High School. Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA closed the gap by scoring on a ground out, a ground out, a fly out, and a single.

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA lost despite out-hitting Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA nine to seven. Lincoln Crane led Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA with two hits.

Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA opened the scoring in the top of the second thanks to four singles. Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA first got on the board when Lee Poyner singled, scoring one run.

Will Scholtz earned the win for Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA. The hurler gave up five hits and two runs over five innings, striking out two and walking two. Kingston Sweetnam pitched five and one-third innings in relief for Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA. The reliever gave up one hit and one run while, striking out two and walking four. Blake Freeland took the loss for Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA. The pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on six hits, striking out one and walking three.

Chris Hair, Macon Williams, and Bryson Swearingen each drove in one run for Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA. Bryson Swearingen stole four bases. Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA ran wild on the base paths, accumulating seven stolen bases for the game.

Bryan’s Big Day Propels Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA Past Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA

Jake Bryan drove in five runs on three hits to lead Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA past Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA 13-4 on Wednesday. Jake Bryan doubled in the fifth scoring two, doubled in the sixth scoring two, and singled in the seventh scoring one.

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA opened the scoring in the first after Kingston Sweetnam grounded out, scoring one run.

Sam Scholtz doubled to center field, which helped Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA tie the game at one in the bottom of the second.

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA took the lead in the top of the third. Jeremiah Yarborough singled, scoring one run, to give Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA the edge, 2-1.

Dutch Fork Post 193 AAA tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a walk by Max Verburg, a single by Brandon Coogler, and a fielder's choice by Gibson Brace.

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA took the lead, 7-4, in the top of the sixth thanks to doubles by Easton Arbaugh, and Jake Bryan.

Aiken Baseball Club 17U AAA scored six runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning.
