Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond to our question and sharing your support and interest in having the Recreation Center open at a limited capacity during Phase 2.
After evaluating the responses and discussing the options with City Management we have determined that our best path forward is unfortunately waiting to welcome members back when Spokane County is approved to move to Phase 3. We continue to prepare the facility for a safe reopening and we are excited to welcome everyone back when we are approved to move to Phase 3. We are posting information on our website so members know what to expect when we re-open.

Whereas we were excited to gear up for Phase 3 so that we can open a large majority of our facility’s offerings, Spokane County is staying in Phase 2 and we are adjusting our opening plan to accommodate this. We are evaluating the value of opening the Fitness and Aquatic Center by appointment for Members only so that you may be able to enjoy at least a part of our facility while we are still under Phase 2.
During this opening, our hours will be modified tentatively to 8AM-7PM Monday – Friday with modified use of the Fitness Floor and Aquatic Center. We would schedule appointments with individuals and groups of up to 5 for training sessions once they have reactivated their memberships up to a 30% capacity for both Fitness and Aquatics spaces.
If you would be interested in coming in to take advantage of utilizing the facility under Phase 2 guidelines, please respond below and note how many members would be utilizing the facility during your visit and what the best time would be for your use of the facility. This information will help us determine if the need exists to move forward providing members access to the facility under phase 2 guidelines.
We appreciate your interest and support and look forward to seeing you all soon!
To the Airway Heights Parks and Recreation Community:
As this unprecedented global situation carries on with no definitive timeline to a return of normalcy, the Parks & Recreation Department will officially be on a furloughed status until further notice. While the Recreation Center has been close for a few weeks now, all memberships have been put on pause, and all Spring programming has been canceled, including our Spring Youth Sports Seasons. All accounts have been credited, and credits will be ready for use as soon as the governor lifts his order restricting the use of the facility.
While we would normally be gearing up for a summer full of programs and activities we have had to make some decisions to cancel and postpone many activities that have become a part of our Summer routine here in Airway Heights. Airway Heights Days and the Summer Moonlight Movies Series have been officially canceled. Summer kids programs such as Adventure Heights are currently postponed until our return, and will be modified to meet any social distancing guidelines, and group capacity limitations.
When we do return, we ask for your patience and understanding as we work through a new philosophy of programming and providing access to health and wellbeing. Many of our programs and offerings will see a new format in the beginning, and will adjust as the situation around us allows. Our mission has always been to improve the quality of life in our community through people, parks, and programs. That will never be more true than when we return. Providing places that people feel safe, have access healthy activities, and that bring people together will still be our focus, it just might look and feel a little different.
We would also like to note that our parks are still open, but playgrounds are closed until further notice. We ask that when using the parks be aware of your surroundings and work to find ways to enjoy these wonderful public spaces while keeping a safe distance from the other parks users. Group activities and team sports and games should be avoided, including pick up basketball and volleyball. Park restrooms will remain closed until we are able to ensure they are cleaned and sanitized regularly.
Please bear with us. We will be back and ready to serve our community with the same passion as we always have.
As we receive more information about our return to serving our community we will post all updates on our website, and our page. If you should have any questions please email [email protected] . We will work to get back to you as soon as we possibly can.

Thank you all for your patience as we navigate through these uncertain times and deal with the COVID-19 outbreak that is affecting us all. With President Trump’s announcement that he has extended the social distancing guidelines through the month of April, the Recreation Center will be closed during this period as well.
All memberships have been suspended and credits have been issued up to April 5th at this time, so all reoccurring monthly memberships have been refunded a prorate amount from 3/16 – 4/5, as have all other forms of memberships or activities. This credit can be used towards continuing your membership, or any other activity through the Parks and Recreation Department, once we are able to reopen again. With the extension of our closure, if you would like a refund back to the card you originally made your purchase on, reply to the email you recently received, otherwise we look forward to seeing you once we are fully operational again!
You may notice signs posted on our playgrounds as well as caution tape wrapped around some of our equipment. The Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) issued an order for the closure of all play structures. For more information, click the link below:
