With most of our worlds flipped completely upside down, it is really hard for most of us to regain the balance we once had in our lives. Habits that we worked so hard to make stick have been thrown out the window. Sleep patterns have changed, workouts look different, and we find ourselves sitting in our own thoughts and increasing our anxiousness with each passing day.
.
.
But if we could take a minute to realize how lucky we are at the same time, your attitude may just change! If you are lucky enough to have family around you during this quarantine, make sure you are cherishing each moment. Because we may never get an opportunity like this again.
.
.
And while workouts look different that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy them. On a day like today where the sun is shining, you can do something like go for a hike and still practice social distancing. Getting outside, getting some much needed Vitamin D, and being surrounded by people you are close to (while not being closer than 6 feet) can do wonders to not only our body, but our mind and our spirit as well.

❗️Charity Boot Camp Was a Success❗️

Thank you so much to everyone who came out for first ever Charity Boot Camp! The workout was a blast, and the energy in the gym was great.

We were able to raise $1,025 thanks to each and every one of you! All of the proceeds will go directly to the National MS Society.

Everyone Meet Paula!

Paula came to us a few months ago after her chiropractor told her she should start doing some strength training. Like a lot of people, Paula had a preconceived notion that strength training meant she would get “stiff, and bulky”.

Fast forward 12 weeks and Paula has been one of our favorite people to talk about to new clients! She has completely gotten rid of the fear of gyms and the notion that strength training is for meatheads. But most importantly, she has gotten out of pain and gotten SO much stronger in the process.

Physical strength improvements are awesome to see in someone. But to see someone come from a timid, fearful individual and get so much stronger MENTALLY in just a few months is such a beautiful thing to see unfold. ❗️Don’t be this guy❗️

We get it, after a long day of work, you get home and there is still more work to be done. Not only that, but you want to check social media, eat a little snack and maybe watch your shows, all in the comfort of your own bed. But like, don’t do that.
.
.
In all seriousness, the extra hour of work you do at night is only going to increase your stress levels and make it harder to fall asleep. Eating food, or checking your phone is also going to increase the difficulty to fall asleep at a reasonable hour.
.
.
Solution? Simple. Make your bedroom for one thing and one thing only, GOING TO BED. Your bed should be a sanctuary, and should be used for just sleep! So do yourself a favor, put your laptop away, as well as your phone before 9:00 (you’ll be more productive in the morning, I promise). Skip the late night snack, and let your bed be what it was when you were a child, a place to go to sleep. 🛌

Here’s a quick 5 minute Lower Body routine to kickstart your weekend. Try waking up AT THE SAME TIME you did today, and do this within the first 10 minutes of waking up!

❗️Tip Number 1 For Better Sleep ❗️.
.
Probably the most difficult thing to do when trying to fix your sleeping pattern is to get your devices turned off by 8:30pm. We totally get it. You come home after a long day, you eat some food, and you just want to lie on the couch and see what’s happening on social media or on TV.
.
.
That is all totally fine, but after 8:30pm it really is doing more harm than good. Our bodies need an hour at least of no blue lights to allow the production of melatonin to begin and allow our bodies to get ready for bed. So what can we do instead? Any of these will help wind us down, all while allowing us to feel like we’ve accomplished something before bed.
.
.
We can:
- Read a book or listen to a podcast
- Take a bath
- Do some dishes
- Fold some laundry

Try doing any of these this week and see how much easier it is to fall asleep at a normal hour!

❗️Sound Mind, Sound Body❗️.
.
We live in a world where everything is GO, GO, GO. It becomes very hard to take a step back and focus on your breathing, or on a specific task if you are doing a million things at once.
.
Meditation becomes a very helpful component to allowing ourselves to block out the noise of the outside world, and focus on our breath. It can be a very difficult task for anyone who has a family, one or multiple jobs, stresses of finances, etc.
.
But if we can allow ourselves a time slot, preferably first thing in the morning to just breathe, we can finally let those shoulders relax and realize that this life is beautiful and we need to cherish the now! You are in this moment, right now, and this moment will never be relived again. So cherish it and allow yourself to live in the now!
.
Start with a simple 5 minute breathing drill first thing in the morning. My personal favorite technique is 3 second breath in, 4 second hold, 5 second exhale. Do this, or any other breathing drill for 5 minutes each morning, and let your body come back down and relax just a little bit before the chaos of the day begins!
.

Thanks to @myzonemoves Infinity Albany and Infinity Ithaca are in the midst of a heated battle to see which gym can accrue the most MEPs, or Max Effort Points through the month of January.

Having something like this is great because it shows you in a very effective way what your heart rate looks like during specific workouts. Not knowing your heart rate intensity is like not knowing how much weight is on the bar.
.
.
On top of that, it is great for when we do competitions between gyms because there’s no way to cheat! Bust your ass and the results will show right in front of you.
.
.
Good luck to both gyms, but Albany has the lead by a few hundred points at the moment and we don’t plan on letting that lead slip!

A great way to improve full body stability, mobility, and overall coordination in one is to perform a Turkish Get Up!.

Not only is it a great exercise for overall strength, but thanks to @myzonemoves we can see that it can get your heart rate up pretty high as well!.
.
Give it a try during your next workout if you’re looking for a bit of a challenge 💪

[01/13/20]   ❗️New Year, New Habits❗️.

This is the time of year where people want to make big changes in their lives, and get on a new path to feeling and living better.
.
If you can give yourself 5 minutes in the morning after you wake up to do some sort of exercise every day for a week or two, you are much more likely to continue. Not only will you continue, but the duration will get longer each week because of how accomplished you feel!
.
So give this quick 5 minute Morning Routine a try. If you don’t have 5 minutes in the morning, wake up earlier and get your stuff set up the night before. It is literally 5 minutes!!
.
Give it a try for two weeks and see if you can push yourself to do it for 10 minutes after you’ve done it consistently for a few weeks.

Make things easier‼️

Sometimes we need all the help we can get. Priming your environment to make future actions easier is one of the best things you can do. Especially when it comes to exercise!

Step 1️⃣: Pick out your outfit for the next day’s workout before you go to bed. If you wait until the morning of, it’s an added stress and can become an excuse to not start.
Step 2️⃣: Fill a cup of water to drink for when you wake up. Put it next to your coffee and make sure you drink it before your coffee!
Step 3️⃣: Put your gym bag, with your outfit and sneakers out next to your coffee so that you can grab everything, and get after it!!
.

Start this week, and limit the excuses to start, or to keep it from becoming a habit 💪💪

‼️Reprogram your brain to enjoy hard habits! ‼️

Let’s face it, exercising first thing in the morning, or after a long day of work can be difficult for anyone. You have to work out, then you have to make dinner for you and your family, and you have to answer emails when you get done with all of that.
.
.
Now imagine changing just one word: You don’t “have” to. You “get” to. You GET to work out after a long day. You GET to make dinner for your family. You GET to answer those emails. By changing just one word, you change your entire outlook on the event.
.
.
So today, our goal for you is to change your wording, and look forward to your daily tasks, no matter how difficult they are. Because you GET to do them. Change your mindset, change your life!

Here we have Ian, who has been looking to improve his deadlift for some time. A few tweaks of his position and some cues to ‘bend the bar’ to get his shoulders and back in the proper position propelled him today to a 255 PR.
