At Ascent we are big fans of the Turkish Get-Up exercise! It’s a great way to challenge coordination, integrated core stability, mobility and strength. Progressions and parts of the exercise can benefit most everyone, regardless of experience or fitness level.

There are different techniques out there form wise and this is a quick video showing how coach @scott.ascent teaches the movement at Ascent! It’s “a way” not “the only way” to perform the movement.

Mindfulness is the key to a solid get-up! It’s an exercise that requires a lot of focus on body position to properly execute. This is also why it is such a great tool to improve your physicality.

There are a lot of steps in the strict version of the movement, but you essentially stand up off the ground holding a weight overhead.

It can be used as a warm up, mobility drill, strength exercise or even for conditioning if you don’t get sloppy!

No matter what way you choose, start very light (a closed fist vs. weight is best) and get confident with the positions before ever trying to load the movement. Also check out the link in our profile for a longer video tutorial!

Showing GRIT! Sam’s birthday sled push! She finished with 605lbs for the 120 yard push!

This is an optional challenge our members can take on for their birthday! This year Sam started with 650 (+50lbs on her push from last year) She hit some serious gravel and this made the push significantly harder. This challenge is as much mental as it is physical. She did not quit despite having to push one step at a time for much of the distance. This was also after completing a Metabolic Conditioning session!

Here are a couple pointers by coach Scott Garrett for setting up the Landmine Squat. This exercise is a great variation and progression to the dumbbell or kettlebell goblet squat. Getting the bar into position can be awkward for some, so here are some tips!

Split Squats & Rear Foot Elevated Split Squats

Split Stance Squats and the progression to Rear Foot Elevated Split Stance Squats are two of our favorites at Ascent. Here is a simple and quick demo by Coach Scott @scott.ascent and Coach Jen Jen Phelan Fitness
They are great exercises for the Legs! Improved balance and strengthened quads, gluteals and hamstrings are some of their benefits!
The way we coach them is:
➡️ A slight forward lean
➡️ Weight 70% on the front foot
➡️ Back heal raised (split squat) or starting the movement from the ground up (rear foot elevated version)
