When you have Warriored all day……
Great training. Learned the concepts on a trigger set. Enlightening to say the least.
Another great day training with a good group of guys. Had some revelations about things I was trained to do in the past. Definitely prefer being cold to hot ( if you know you know)

"Active observation stems from knowing what to look for. You can only train your body for some long every day until it is exhausted, but the mind can be pushed much longer with no ill effects." - John Danaher

'People who give in to their pain are almost always destined to come in second or third in life. It's like runners in a race: One guy's knee starts hurting and he slows down to protect it; another guy's knee starts hurting, and all he can see ahead of him is the finish line. It's the people who stop to consider their hurt and heartache who usually fall short of their goals. Some even drop out altogether just because they experience a little disappointment or sorrow. You've got to play through your pain if you want to make it where you're going.'

The Man of Action

Distinguish the man of words from the man of deeds. Baltasar Gracian

There are many people out there who talk the talk, but don’t walk the walk. They will say anything to placate you or to make themselves look good in your eyes, but then they never back up what they say. Promises mean absolutely nothing to them.

They make promises as easily as they say good morning. These people are all talk. Their words are as empty as a bottomless bucket and are completely meaningless, as well as harmless once you understand that they can’t be trusted.

It is important for you to be able to distinguish between these people and the man of his word. A man of character says what he means and means what he says. He does not take promises lightly. When he says something, you can bank on it.

This is the type of man that Gracian referred to as the “man of deeds.” He calls this man a man of deeds because he puts his words into action. His words aren’t hollow. They do not lack meaning. When he says he will do something, he does it.

Why is it important to be able to distinguish between these two types of men? It is important simply because it can be dangerous to trust the “man of words.” He cannot be trusted. Take what he says with a grain of salt.

If you rely on the “man of words” to follow through on what he says and make that reliance part of your strategy, you are setting yourself up to fail. Make sure that you know what type of man you are dealing with before you put any trust in his word. Learn to read men as well as books. Greb was my sparring partner once. He was the fastest thing I ever saw in action. Hitting him is one of life’s most difficult jobs, because he’s never ‘set’ for a second, never comes at you the same way twice, never does anything in ring warfare that can be called orthodox. He’s always doing the unexpected and because he does, he’s one of them phantom targets which you can hit more by luck than through the use of skill.”
Heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey speaking in 1922.

Dempsey and Greb sparred on two separate occasions with Greb seeing the better of the action packed sessions twice.

Greb badly wanted to fight Dempsey for his title yet found himself never given the opportunity to fight for the greatest prize in all of boxing.

It wasn’t only the highly skilled black fighters of the times denied…..Greb was white and a much feared fighter even though he was a smaller man.
He in fact won a light heavyweight title before he won the worlds middleweight crown….again the latter was due to him being avoided.

Dempsey stands to the left of the picture and Greb to the right….Harry’s eye line of vision lines up directly to Dempseys chin emphasising the difference in size and stature. Greb stood at 5 feet,7-8 inches tall and left Dempsey bewildered and battered during said sparring sessions.
Greb would feast upon heavyweights and those bigger and heavier than himself.
I suppose Dempsey was in a lose-lose situation….beat Greb and he’s beat a middleweight….. lose to him and he’s lost to a guy much smaller than he.
If only the two had fought in a championship bout we may well of had some footage of ‘the Pittsburgh Windmill’ at his glorious yet bewildering best.
I believe if Greb had of held the heavyweight title, then just like he did when middleweight champion he would of given the best man a crack at him…regardless of colour.
A fighting man of the highest order….black, white, bigger or considered better he didn’t care he wanted all the smoke.
And to think he spent much of his career fighting blind in one eye.
300 or more bouts and dead at 32.
Incredible.

Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle." — Mike Tyson

Your instructor’s time with you is limited. If your instructor sucks, he’ll give you a bunch of techniques/forms to memorize. If your instructor is good, he’ll give you keys to doors, keys in the form of things (body movement, concepts, strategies, etc.) that, if you work them, will lead to keys to others doors. Remember, your instructor’s time with you is limited. If you are going to get good, you have to spend time playing with the keys. Some keys lead to other doors. Some keys lead to other keys.

P.S. If your instructor doesn’t know anything, he will tell you forms are the keys.

Why They Boxed Like This In The Old Days

Also known as the Long Guard. You still see it sometimes, although it’s not common. It’s challenging, especially if you’ve never seen it or gone against it. Bridging the long distance this guard creates takes some problem solving. With a long guard you can keep a guy away and really make him work.

Why They Boxed Like This In The Old Days Many have the question as to Why they fought like this in the past? Well, Today here at Primo Boxing we will be covering everything that has to do with this ...
