The Gym Shut Down Due To COVID Orders from the Governor... That's right and it sucks! We are all in this together and every business deemed non essential including gyms are forced to shut down.
So what are we doing as a response?
Since the original shut down in March we have been offering virtuals along with in person training.
We've had major success with keeping body fat and weight down.
Today I want to give you some inside info on how to make it work from home.

Home Virtual Workout Rules:
1. Set a time everyday to do the virtual! Reserve a zoom session in ZenPlanner or schedule the pre-recorded workout in your calendar just like a regular in person Appt & stick to it
2. Prepare your screen and setup 15 minutes before the virtual.
3. Set up your workout space. If it's either a empty space or the middle of your living room.
4. Commit that space to working out everyday.

6. Chat with others on the zoom calls before and after, that is your time to socialize.
7. When there is a fitness challenge definitely take part.
8. Find someone to be your accountability buddy. Remind each other to do the workouts, even set up a time to do that virtual together on zoom call.
9. While we are out of the studio we may not be exercising in the most padded surface, please do not jump if you are on a hard floor. Otherwise our knees wil get sore from the impact on a hard floor.
10. Have fun or be creative with the Facebook checkins don't just check off "done". Take a quick selfie and show off that beautiful smile, you don't have to wear a mask!

We have transitioned to a full online coaching program! Live Stream Personal Training and Full Boot Camp Sessions! During this time of social distancing (as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak) we will remain open for phone calls and providing full support for our coaching program. Our staff remains employed by working remotely and without clients inside the fully sanitized gym.

I filmed the workout Saturday 3/14 and uploaded it to youtube last night. I will be emailing active members viewing links beginning today and then daily from now on. I will be providing this filmed version everyday in a live session until further notice. Please look for an email from me though ZenPlanner for the viewing link each day.
The NM PED has closed school for a minimum of 3 weeks beginning Monday 3/16/20 to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community. France and Spain just closed / quarantined their entire country following the extreme escalation in Italy earlier this week. While this virus is not as deadly as something like Ebola, it’s extremely virulent and spreads “faster than wildfire in New Mexico on a dry year”.
We are asking our community to stay away from any large gathering of people and stay home other than going to work. Any members that travel outside of the state after the Wednesday 3/11/20 declaration of the Pandemic by the World Health Organization, will be asked to stay out of the gym and do remote workouts for 30 days after re-entry to the state. Research has shown that there can be viral shedding for up to 37 days and there is significant concern the current 14 days minimum may not sufficiently slow the outbreak. We are asking anyone that has visited a medical facility and all Health Care and medical profession employees to wear/bring a pair of shoes that have not been worn inside the facility to avoid potential accidental cross contamination.
Gyms have been identified as a high potential spreading source of this illness… however we have always had significantly superior cleaning protocols compared to most gyms even prior to this outbreak and have a much smaller population moving through the space each day. We have appreciably escalated our cleaning in the last 6 weeks and will be introducing more aggressive procedures effective Monday 3/16/20. This involves some schedule changes for sufficient time to sanitize between every session. Private training clients will have the option to attend sessions via zoom effective immediately. Please contact your trainer for coordination of this for the time being or a case to case basis.
CedarFIT is utilizing Commercial Ozone Units every day in our facilities. These machines take normal Oxygen (O2) and convert it to Ozone (O3) which fills every cubic inch in the space. Ozone is a powerful oxidizer that breaks apart and kills microorganisms including Staph Aureus, MRSA, Influenza & Corona Viruses. Please note: Units cannot be run with humans in the building for a minimum of 2 hours after use for safety or it would be running 24/7.
The COVID-19 viral disease that has swept into at least 114 countries and killed more than 4,000 people is officially been declared a pandemic as of Wednesday 3/11/20. For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia. The complete clinical picture with regard to COVID-19 is not fully known. Reported illnesses have ranged from very mild (including some with no reported symptoms) to severe, including illness resulting in death. While information so far suggests that most COVID-19 illness is mild, a report out of China suggests serious illness occurs in 16% of cases. Older people and people of all ages with severe chronic medical conditions — like heart disease, lung disease and diabetes, for example — seem to be at higher risk of developing serious COVID-19 illness. Smokers of all ages are at significantly higher risk of complications.

We are acutely aware of the danger to some high-risk individuals (or those with household members at risk) if they contract this virus especially if hospitals become overwhelmed as Italy has experienced. We are committed to providing our community with safe home workouts during this time of uncertainty as exercise is an extremely important part of a healthy immune system. We ask that members in this group protect themselves by staying home (except from work if necessary) and use our online workouts.
While Albuquerque has not yet experienced the extreme situation that many other communities throughout the world are going though, I anticipate that some of our fitness family will choose to stay at home instead of attending regular workouts. I encourage and support this decision. We (and all non-essential businesses) may at some point in the near future, be required by governmental authorities to cancel onsite workouts, determined by the severity of the outbreak, and this is also a great way to provide continuity of service for a short time. Regular exercise is a vital part of a strong immune system including a great avenue for stress relief. I honestly have no idea of timelines at this point and promise to update and coordinate quickly in response to this rapidly unfolding situation.
Many members have asked what they can do to boost their immunity… Just like weight loss, there are no magic pills or quick immunity boosters that can totally prevent you from becoming sick with ANY virus.
However there ARE some proactive steps that you can take to help keep your immune system strong… So that IF/WHEN you contract any illness, you will give yourself the best chance of beating it quickly!
1. Manage your stress levels. And I DON’T mean managing your stress by eating. 😉 Find ways that you can relieve stress and calm yourself down. Whether it’s workouts, a walk outside, breathing practice, reading a book, or watching a movie…it’s critical to keep your stress and panic levels down.
2. Eat a lot of veggies and high quality protein at *most* meals. Your immune system needs proper nutrients in order to fight off viruses. If you regularly fuel your body with non-nutritious foods, your body has to work even HARDER to combat sickness.
3. Get enough sleep and rest. 7-9 hours per night of sleep is ideal. However, if that’s hard to fit into your schedule, then at least find extra time to relax and rest.
4. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds & 60 is better... In a public place without a bathroom? Keep hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol) with you.
5. Move your body. Whether it’s a workout or walking your dog, if you feel healthy, then keep your moving! Research suggests that movement strengthens your immune system.
6. Drink plenty of water! Staying hydrated helps carry oxygen to your cells and helps flush out toxins within your body… Both of which help fight off sickness!
6. Take vitamin C… I personally take 3,000 mg every day and if I feel a throat tickle I up my daily intake to 5- 6k.
7. Avoid sugar completely (unless it’s fresh fruit - not juice). Sugar decreases your immunity so it does the exact opposite of the immune boost most of us are looking for.
8. Get outside every day. Fresh Air & Vitamin D from Sunshine really are good for your immunity (in moderation to avoid sunburn of course).
9. Social distancing of 6 feet between individuals everywhere including the gym. The goal is to slow/reduce the spread of illness to everyone especially those in our at risk population.
10. Breath. Breath practice utilizing free apps like calm (no upgrade required to do breathing exercises). It will keep your lungs strong, help you remain calm & clear and provide overall increased sense of wellbeing.
Please take responsibility over yourself and give yourself the BEST chance of beating any illnesses you may encounter (that includes the common cold and flu on top of COVID-19) by being proactive with your health by not panicking. Please be sure you're getting all information about the Coronavirus from trusted sources, like the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization. FB and other social media venues should not be relied on for information.
CedarFIT Communicable Illness Policy:
WASH YOUR HANDS & or Use Handsanitizer when you arrive & before you leave the facility. Wash your hands vigorously for at least 20 seconds up to 60 Seconds with very warm water and soap. Don't forget the backs of your hands and around/under the nails.
WIPE DOWN YOUR EQUIPMENT using a disinfectant wipe to thoroughly clean any surfaces that you touched since arriving and any surface that may have accumulated sweat or other fluids.
SHARING IS NOT CARING . If you're feeling at all unwell please stay home. Members experiencing Fatigue, fever and other symptoms are asked to not participate in onsite activities. If you are experiencing seasonal allergies (I know I am) please sneeze and cough into your elbow or neckline of your shirt and not into your hands.
DON'T TOUCH YOUR FACE or Anyone Else's... Any virus can enter your system though Eyes, Nose & Mouth and masks do not stop the aerosolized virus (sneezes & coughing).
