We had such a great time at our swim clinic! We hope everyone came out if that with some great improvements!

Congratulations to Ronan for breaking the 11-12 State Record in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.58!

Happy New Year! Congrats LOBO on having such a great December! We were fantastic at Age Group Champs! We had a fun instrasquad Futures/Masters Meet! We swam fast at Pro-Am! We had a challenging but fun 2 week 50m course Howl Week practices! Lastly we rang in the new year with our annual 100x100s with the Lady Lobos, masters, and club swimmers!

Registration is open for the Lobo-UNM chapter (Albuquerque) and you can begin the process by selecting Join Lobo on our team homepage at SwimLobo.com.

At Lobo-UNM we are continuing to have the open October swim trial. You can come to the UNM pool for the rest of the month (see website for practice times and groups) without charge and the coaches will help your swimmer get placed into the best swim group for their level.

Lobo-RR chapter (located in Rio Rancho) continues with their practices and you can visit their website at LoboSwimming.com

For Lobo-UNM groups, practices start today at the UNM pool at 4:15pm. Parking at UNM requires some planning. The parking garage at UNM is available by the hour. If parking 1-2x a week that is the most economical option. If parking 3+ times a week, it is less expensive to purchase the UNM South lot pass which allows parking in all unreserved spots near the pool beginning at 3:45pm Mon-Fri and all-day Saturday and Sunday. Free, off-campus street parking can be found as well.

Entry to Pool: Enter the pool through the west side fence off the UNM student health center parking lot (no unreserved parking at the health center ... tickets are expensive so avoid temptation). If doing drop-offs/pick-ups do NOT leave car unattended in bus lane or handicap parking.

Masks are required indoors.

Lobo Aquatics is on break this week, then back to practice on Tuesday the 24th. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will update the team and families if we make any additional changes.

As of this time, the Open Water clinic is still going on.

2020 Swim New Mexico OWS Series I: Cochiti Lake

All distance and Open Water swimmers, a note from Coach Aaron:
"Distance swimmers,

I will be conducting an open water clinic at the UNM competition pool Thursday March 19th from 4-7pm. Lobo Aquatic Club will be on break, and not holding practice this day. There is no fee to attend this clinic other than standard UNM parking fees ($5 flat rate after 3:45 pm). The clinic will focus on open water techniques such as sighting, drafting, in-water starts, and buoy turns. We will also discuss subjects specific to open water swimming such as wetsuit selection, anti-chafing, and keeping caps and goggles attached to your head during a race. All NMS swimmers are welcome to attend this clinic. Swimmers who are members of a NMS Club other than Lobo Aquatic Club, please get your coach’s permission before attending.

Leading up to the 2020 Western Zone Open Water Championship, you can hone your open water skills at the 2020 Swim New Mexico Open Water Series (see attachment above, and link to first race below). This series is run by Zoe Fitness, and will be a three-race series held at Cochiti Lake and Abiquiu Lake in New Mexico.

The 2020 Western Zone Open Water Championship is loosely scheduled for September 2020. The latest information has it taking place in Coronado Bay, CA (San Diego), and hosted by Coronado Swim Association. More information to follow.

I hope to see you all there!"

10-under boys - Ikaika Kang - 2nd

11-12 girls - Chloe Shaw -1st

13-14 boys - Krishna Clarke - 2nd

15-18 girls - Emma Gehlert - 3rd

15-18 girls - Alexandra Threhane - 1st

Thank you again to all the wonderful swimmers, coaches, and families who helped make our success possible- you all rose to the challenge, and shattered expectations!

Winter B Championship Lobo Swimmers

Lobo Aquatics hosted the state B-Championship Meet at the Seidler Natatorium on February 29th and March 1st 2020. Lobo swimmers put in an amazing effort, and it really paid off: Bella Tovar won the girls 9-10 50 freestyle, Jeremiah Johnson took first in the boys 9-10 50 back, and Kalena Kang won the girls 11-12 200 breaststroke. Bella and Kalena also won the girls 50 fly for their age groups. Overall, Lobo placed third in the team competition! Great job Lobo swimmers!

Lobo's Head Coach Doug Forbes has been selected as New Mexico Senior Coach of the year! Coach Doug coaches our senior team, as well as being Head Coach for the entire Lobo squad. Congratulations, Coach Doug! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Volunteers are needed on Wednesday, March 5th to help stuff state team treat bags during practice: this year we will have about 80 swimmers to make bags for! We'll set up a table and do it at the pool. Any donations will be gratefully received; previous years donations have included candy, little toys, granola bars, mardi gras beads, and rubber ducks.

We will be having a poster party for our state team, on Wednesday, March 4th after practice. We will be having the party upstairs on the balcony and in the team room, so we're out of the way of other swimmers practicing that night. Please bring snacks, drinks, markers, poster board, crepe paper, decorations, etc., and help us decorate posters to cheer our state swimmers on! Everyone is invited to come decorate and hang out, even if they are not swimming at state champs.

Belen swimmers: come up and work out with us that day and stay to decorate and hang out with Lobo ABQ! All of the Belen swimmers are invited regardless if they are going to champs or not!

B League State Championships start Saturday and go through Sunday! The B League is our league for novice/younger swimmers, so c'mon out to the UNM Natatorium to cheer on New Mexico's youngest swimmers!

Tomorrow is team picture day! The photographer will start taking individual photos tomorrow at 3:40 pm, and then the team photo at 4 pm. Please wear your Lobo tshirts, or kelly green or navy blue shirts for the team photo. We have a few shirts that we can loan to swimmers for the team photo. These pictures make great Christmas gifts for family, and Full Contact photography does an excellent job with them.

Belen swimmers, if you can make it up for the photos, WE WANT YOU! Come up for the team photo and join us for practice tomorrow night!

We'll see you tomorrow, and as always...LET'S GO LOBO!

Lobos- please remember to sign up for jobs at our meet! Every family must do 12 hours of service at the meet. 6 of those hours can be done through donations of food and drinks for the hospitality room, but the remainder must be done through a variety of jobs at the meet: timing, helping in the hospitality suite, running time sheets, working at the admin table, officiating, etc. These are very important jobs, so please sign up!

Pre-team families are exempt from this service requirement.

The Lobo Open Water team had a great zones meet this past weekend in San Diego! Ally Threhane took third place in the girls 15-16 5k, and William Lechman got 20th in the boys 15-16 5k. Audrey Phelps snagged third place in the girls 11-12 3k, and Diego Vigil took fourth in the boys 11-12 3k. Overall, New Mexico swimmers made an impressive showing at the meet, and we're proud to have sent four talented swimmers from Lobo.

Congratulations to the NM Open Water Zones team, and especially to our Lobo swimmers!

Personalized cap orders are due by midnight tonight!

One thing we love about swimming in New Mexico is the truly international flavor we can get just by traveling a little south. There are 8 teams from Mexico at this meet!

This is the last week for personalized cap orders. Caps are $30 for 2, minimum order of 2 caps, and each order of two must have the same name on them. If you'd like to order caps, send me an email at [email protected] with the number of caps you'd like, and the name(s) you would like on them. The due date for orders is midnight on October 1st.

Starting next week on the 1st of October we will be doing suit fittings for team suits at Lobo ABQ. Please come by before or after practice, so we're not cutting into valuable practice time! We will measure swimmers for the suits, and have sample suits for them to try on. Please make sure your swimmer has their underwear or another suit with them for the try ons. We will not have suits for sale with us, but after the fittings you can order suits at our team store through SkiPro.

Lobo Belen swimmers who need a fitting can shoot me an email at [email protected], and I'll arrange to do a fitting down in Belen!

Have you seen our new site?

We upgraded the old site yesterday, and have a brand-new, easier to navigate site! If you have questions on how to navigate the new site, or find any broken links/outdated pages, let us know ASAP!

That time of year is rolling around again- personalized cap orders!

We will need a minimum of 50 caps to place the order. The caps are $30 for a set of two, with a minimum of 2 caps per name. You can put first names, last names, first initial with last name, or nicknames on the caps.

*Note* if your swimmer is a part of our Open Water group, you may also order caps with Lobo Open Water on them. We will need a minimum of 50 caps to place the order.

Email your orders to [email protected] by October 1st!

The Lobo Swimmer of the week is...

Krishna Clarke!

Everyone loves to have Krishna around, and his easy smile and infectious laugh make is easy to see why we chose him for our swimmer of the week! His quiet confidence and strong work ethic constantly inspires younger swimmers as well as his peers.

Krishna joined Lobo in 2013, and has been one of our most diligent swimmers since then. His favorite race is the 200 breast stroke, but he is also a talented back, fly, and IM swimmer. His favorite race memory is coming back from behind in the 200 backstroke finals at Short Course state championships to win the event, just hundredths of a second ahead of the second place finisher.

Krishna has also made two separate NM Zones teams, which are made up of the best swimmers in the state, and represent New Mexico at the national level; this is one of his proudest moments as a swimmer.

His goals for the future include making the Lobo Sectionals team, and eventually swimming in college. He's a multitalented guy too- besides swimming, Krishna enjoys hiking, skiing, drawing, boardgames and running.

Congratulations, Krishna!
