We are all a volunteer, family centered, collective. A pretty awesome one too, mostly because we are doing this for each other. If you are just racing for trophies, we might not be the racing series for you. Speaking of which, the New Mexico Rattlers race is this weekend and Red Rock will be presenting their trophies on Saturday night!

WHAT A DESERT CHALLENGE IT WAS!

The Red Rock Motorsports Club would like to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out and supported our 2026 Desert Challenge. And this year, it truly lived up to its name.

After our original race date was postponed because of flooding, the storms had absolutely decimated our course. At one point, we seriously considered cancelling the race altogether for 2026. But our racing community encouraged us to keep going. So the Red Rockers went back to work. Our club members came together, repaired what we could, rerouted what we couldn't, and somehow crafted a challenging 11-mile course that we hoped would be worthy of our racers. Then 151 of you showed up to race it — a record turnout! Hearing racer after racer tell us what a great course it was and how much fun they had made every hour of work worthwhile. We couldn't be happier with the weekend, and we consider the 2026 Desert Challenge a rousing success!

There is, however, one part of this we need to address. During the race, our course worker and RRMS president, Ben Harvey was struck by a racer while Ben and Jett were helping riders through one of the deep mudholes. We're very thankful to say Ben is okay, although he's pretty banged up and recovering from several broken ribs. Getting him safely out of the course turned into quite an adventure of its own — but we'll save that story for another day. After talking with racers, witnesses and staff who were there, we believe the collision itself was an unfortunate racing incident involving several factors. It was a difficult mudhole, riders needed momentum to get through it, visibility and conditions were challenging, and no one was able to identify the racer involved.

What concerns us is what happened afterward. The racer continued on without stopping to check on Ben. We don't know what that racer saw, heard or understood in those few seconds, and we aren't interested in publicly condemning someone when we don't have all the facts. But we do want to make something very clear about what we expect at a Red Rock Motorsports event: If you think you may have hit or injured someone, you stop. Race position, lap times and trophies come second to the safety of the people around you.

Many of us Red Rockers are getting beyond our own racing years. We don't spend countless weekends marking course, working checkpoints, pulling stuck bikes and putting these races together because we're chasing trophies. We do it because we love desert racing and the people who make up this community. That's also one of the reasons we are proud to be part of the New Mexico Race Collective. We want to keep New Mexico desert racing alive, thriving and, most importantly, something families and racers want to be part of. Competition is a huge part of racing. But winning should never come at the expense of someone else's safety. At Red Rock Motorsports, we look out for one another — competitors, course workers, volunteers, spectators and fellow racers alike.

Race hard. Compete hard. But take care of each other.

That's the desert racing community we want to be part of, and that's the community we saw from the overwhelming majority of the 151 racers who came out and supported us this weekend.

Thank you for making the 2026 Desert Challenge one we'll remember for a very long time.
