Watch her movements. 1 in 200 kids will develop this disease. This was our daughter, Teagan, 5 years ago. She developed OVERNIGHT motor tics, regression, obsessive thoughts and fears, urinary issues, regression in school and eating restriction, and baby talk, dilated pupils and separation anxiety. This is called PANDAS ( pediatric autoimmune disorders associated with Streptococcus). Frequent Strep infections, or sinus infections or other pathogens cause a misdirected immune response on the brain ( autoimmune encephalitis). Some kids descend into hell and can't function at all. EARLY treatment is key! Our daughter required a specific antibiotic and tonsillectomy, along with other treatments. Some kids require more extensive immune procedures.
The first few docs that saw our daughter did not recognize this. In fact, one recommended botoxing her neck muscles for the tics. Finally we found help and she is an amazing, healthy girl today! 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️
OCTOBER 9th is PANDAS awareness day!!

Meet Jeremy Segura @aintmotivated , a 20 year old athlete and bio med student from Costa Rica who also happens to have Cerebral Palsy. Jeremy shared with our community that the Cerebral Palsy doesn't affect his mind, but affects the right side of his body. During his lifetime he has had 7 surgeries to restructure the muscles in his legs with the hopes of being able to walk one day. When he was younger he had multiple surgeons tell his parents that there was little to no hope that he would be able to walk independently in his life.

Jeremy proved the surgeons and everyone is his life wrong. For many years he was in a wheel chair until one day when he got older and found a MMA gym that taught Krav Maga, a self defense system. At this gym he met his coach that wanted to train Jeremy right away. Jeremy's coach told his parents that he would be able to walk one day because he saw the spirit in him. After 4 months of training with his coach he left his wheelchair behind and started using a walker. 3 months after that he started using just a "stick" or crutch. One year later of training Jeremy worked up the courage and strength to no longer use the stick and felt that he didn't need it anymore. Jeremy shared transitioning from his walker to just a stick was the biggest physical and mental challenge he had ever faced because there was nothing there for him to fully lean on or depend on anymore. He shared that he had to realize that everything that he ever wanted was on the other side of fear, so he just had to face it. Jeremy has now been training and learning Krav Maga for 6 years and is walking independently.

Currently Jeremy is studying Bio Medical Prosthetics and is also a motivational speaker in his country of Costa Rica. He shared that his number one goal is to move to the US after college and motivate people, not only with disabilities, but anyone that has a dream. He said "my goal is to defeat the one thing that never gives up. It's all about your attitude and hard work. You are not always going to be motivated and thats when discipline is everything. It will be the one thing that keeps you moving forward.
