An image that doesn't need a name connected to it. I'm happy to announce the date has been set for this year's JIM THORPE 5k run. The event will be happening on Saturday, June 27th. SAVE THE DATE. This year's event will have several exciting components added to it. 1) A Volcano Vista HS XC/Distance Track runners' get-together for the years 2007 - 2011, under the coaches, John Ball, Michael Daney, & Ryan Gilmore. 2) Meet and talk with a current Sports Warrior Track Club member that has qualified for the men's US Marathon Olympic Trials, 3) This will be a New Mexico USATF 5k State Championship event (a chance for more awards if you're a NM USATF member) 4) A team challenge 5) The return of an overall Native American male and female National Champion. Sports Warriors TC is in Portland ready to take on the top US runners at the USATF US XC Trials.

CONGRATULATIONS: Sports Warrior TC elite runner, MacKenzie Wahpepah-Harris, (Kickapoo) has been named the head Cross-Country coach at Southwest Christian University. We can't say enough how proud the SWTC group is of this announcement. Mackenzie is dedicated to the advancement and development of our Native youth in the classroom and on the athletic field. Being an accomplished HS and Collegiate runner, (NAIA INDIVIDUAL NATIONAL CHAMPION IN THE MILE) with multiple All-American awards and a national title he will bring knowledge and experience to this program. Mackenzie still is an active runner with the SWTC program and will be traveling with us to Portland for the USATF USA XC Team Selection trials on December 6, 2025.

RUNNING MEDICINE IS LOOKING FOR FEMALE RUNNERS TO COMPETE AT THE CLUB XC CHAMPIONSHIPS IN TALLAHASSEE, FL IN JANUARY. IF I'M CORRECT THEY ALREADY HAVE 3 RUNNERS AND NEED 5 TO MAKE A TEAM. IF YOUR OVER 40 YOU STILL CAN RUN DOWN IN THE OPEN DIVISION. THEY NEED TO KNOW ASAP. LET ME KNOW IF YOU'RE INTERESTED AND I WILL PASS ON THE INFORMATION. You must be a NM USATF member and associate yourself with the Running Medicine USATF club. If you're already affiliated with another NM club but haven't competed under that club for 90 days you can change your membership and always have the option to switch back.

Final countdown to the NM Association USATF Road Half Marathon State Championship on August 10, 2025. The Rio Grande Half Marathon will serve as host for this year's half marathon championships. To receive recognition as one of the placers in the NM Association USATF State Championship you must be a current 2025 New Mexico Association USATF member. You can sign up for a USATF NM membership by going to https://newmexico.usatf.org/ If you sign up prior to the start of the half-marathon, you are eligible for USATF awards as well as Rio Grande Half marathon event awards. The USATF awards will go to the top 3 female and male in these age categories, 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and up. There will be a table for you to check in as a USATF member at the start of the half marathon. After the race, there will be a table set up near the results to check your place and receive your award. Verification of 2025 NM USATF membership must be made prior to receiving any award. You can easily locate your membership at https://www.usatf.org/ and go into your profile. (NOTE: If you have already entered the half-marathon and want to be put on the USATF awards list, send us a message and you won't need to sign up the morning of the race) Signing up for a New Mexico Association USATF membership will also make you eligible for the our other upcoming state road, trail, mountain, and cross-country state championships. Some of the upcoming NM USATF events will also have prize money.

For those attending the Jim Thorpe Run at SIPI on Saturday, you will be blessed with the presence of another outstanding Native Athlete, whom I'm blessed to call one of my good friends, Edison Eskeets. He is a former Haskell College brother who comes from the same roots of our beginning, Running for the best Native coach to ever live. Edison recently published a book; Send A Runner, in which he weaves his background, Dine' culture, and the Long Walk of the Dine' people. Regardless of tribe or nationality, I highly recommend you read this book and make your own journey into what once was, what is, and what our future holds. I'm bringing my copy to have him sign it. I can't wait to see what our conversations hold this time around, always a master of conversation about all walks of life.
