Took me way too long to get this video out, but we put the hammer down on this brute! Video link is in the description. If 25 minutes is too long for you, there is a shorter version!

Hardest part of antelope hunting will always be drawing the tag. Took me 15 years to draw an antelope tag and it was great to have some of the crew out helping look over goats.

Unit 9 produced this year. Dawson worked hard for his bull. We definitely made some mistakes on the target bulls, but excited that we got to spend another September on Mount Taylor.

First tag of the season punched on a heavy mass lope! Bunch more tags to go, but this hunt definitely had some lows and highs. Eric grinded for this lope through some gun malfunctions and was able to seal the deal with a perfect 300 yard shot! 2023 season off with a banger.

Mexican (left) and Mexican x Mallard Cross (right). Both are fairly common New Mexico ducks but the cross is much less frequent and comes in different variations - some have a lot more green than others and some have no green at all. Mexican and Mexican hybrids feature a turquoise speculum and Mexican ducks have a much sharper body feather contrast and darker coloring than mallards. The Mexican duck feeding characteristics are diving instead of mallards dabbling and sifting. The places where I can expect to kill Mexican ducks are specifically where the primary food sources are snails and invertebrates like stock ponds and stagnant, invertebrate rich water.

Wrapping up the first archery season with a couple of great hunts! was able to get it done again in back to back years. grinded it out in a tough unit and was on great bulls the entire hunt. Good luck to those with second archery season and muzzy/rifle tags lots of good bulls around this year.
