Such an incredible week of practice with Patricia Walden, she kept driving us to go in deeper, to understand WHY we practice, beyond just trying to improve the pose. To use the asana as an object of meditation, dharana, dhyana, towards total absorption beyond the ego self, beyond imprints if the past. She reminded us not to do ‘yesterday‘s pose’ that “when you’re attached to the past you put yourself in bondage.”

The teachings were extraordinarily challenging, deep and beautiful. I struggled a lot, internally, sometimes I lose faith, get stuck. But then, through practice, the horizon shifts and on the last day I had a breakthrough. Now everything feels fresh and alive in a different way. And this, too, will pass. Sometimes I don’t realize when I’m stuck in a dull heavy shadowy place in my life, until I’m out of it and I can look back. #abhyasa, #vairagya ✨

You’ll notice in the second picture, my leg is lifting higher, but at the expense of my spine and shoulders. In the first pose, I have more sternum opening+ length through the adrenal/ kidney area, where the lumbar meets the thoracic, a region that is often exploited in a deep backbend.
