Tennis 4 Futures

Tennis 4 Futures is a tennis program providing no-cost year-round tennis activities for middle school students in the ABQ area. #TENNIS4FUTURES

Tennis 4 Futures – Bringing Opportunities to Albuquerque Youth Tennis 4 Futures is a tennis program founded in 2014 with the goal of providing an opportunity for middle school students to play tennis year-round. Melissa Clark, the co-founder of Tennis4Futures, says the idea for the program came out of her experience assisting volunteer head coach Don Larrichio with the Grant Middle School Tennis team. The USTA Northern New Mexico Tennis Association (NNMTA) Fall Mid-School Tennis League started in 1996 and attracts upwards of 700 students playing on nearly 40 teams each year. Tennis4Futures shares the NNMTA vision to further the development of tennis in the local area by bringing tennis opportunities to mid-school students beyond the introduction provided during the fall mid-school tennis season. Tennis4Futures bridges the gap for middle school students who are interested in playing tennis beyond their fall tennis season. Tennis4Futures encourages students to participate in the NNMTA Lucky 7 Rookie Tournament Circuit and pays entry fees as necessary. Tennis skills are taught by co-founders Melissa Morris and Melissa Clark, various University of New Mexico Lobo Tennis Club teaching pros, and other volunteers from the community. Tennis 4 Futures provides a fun, safe environment for the students to develop tennis skills and be part of a team. The program emphasizes the importance of doing well in school, working hard, being healthy, and good sportsmanship. Tennis4Futures sets the groundwork for continued involvement in tennis, from mid-school to high school, and ultimately as a lifetime sport. The sport of tennis teaches important life lessons and can positively influence a student’s life. Tennis4Futures is committed to bringing tennis to those who would not traditionally have access to the game. We look forward to working with the USTA NNMTA Southwest Section to develop and grow Tennis4Futures with the goal of reaching larger numbers of mid-school students in the local area. The majority of Tennis4Futures students are from Grant Middle School and the program provides tennis activities, including free clinics, for up to 12 students. For first full year of the program, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Southwest Section and the Southwest Tennis Foundation awarded grants to Tennis4Futures. These grants partially funded the program, with additional funding from private donations and volunteer hours. For more information on Tennis4Futures please message Melissa Clark or Melissa Morris or email us at [email protected].

Almost too big for the kids table! 🤣 Fun morning of liveball at @lobotennisclub with these T4F student-athletes from Sandia HS, Highland HS, and Manzano HS!

This dynamic duo has been with Tennis4Futures since the very first practice on Jan 18, 2015. How fitting that they would play doubles today for Sandia HS and clinch the 5th match win for the state title! Congratulations Sandia HS on your 2019 State Championship! You ALL worked hard for this successful season and played with class!

A little dynamic stretching to warm-up our T4F student-athletes for the last @nnmtaprograms Lucky 7 tournament today! Smiles for days ❤️🎾🏆

A few things: I always enjoy playing this tournament but it’s been especially important to me the past 2 years for various reasons.
I made it clear to my parents and doctors I had to play this tournament even if I had an injured shoulder and couldn’t serve or bad hip and couldn’t walk😂, after 3 days of heat pads, Ice packs, chiropractors, and epsom salt baths, I will always return to show my support for Tommy Barber.
Social media should be used to spread happiness and positivity. At times the World Wide Web can be a negative place. But it was always a positive when we had someone like tommy spreading the good vibes to others, I’m so thankful for that. Sometimes you need to think about the person on the other side of a negative text, it’s most certainly not fun to be a victim. So, with that said, I would like to finish with thank you Tommy Barber, you have no idea how much your kindness meant to me. I wish I had known your own struggles, because I would’ve told you you were a bright light in my life. #play4tommy ✨John 4:16 #nobullying @usta @madisonkeys @serenawilliams @ustasouthwest @fearlesslygirl

Changing the Game Project

We hear from parents quite a bit who are told their child is too old to start a sport or who are discouraged from participating because their child will not be "helpful" to the team.

Youth sports are not about whether kids are good enough. Being too old to start or being too short is an excuse given by someone who only wants to win. If it is safe and it will build valuable life skills, create memories, be fun, and instill positive traits...sign them up!

Nothing better than seeing this - four of our Tennis4Futures players in a high school varsity tennis match - Eldorado (left) vs Sandia (right)! ❤️

We hosted the students from First Serve New Mexico at Lobo Tennis Club today for a fun afternoon of tennis! 🎾 #Tennis4Futures
