Tennis 4 Futures is a tennis program providing no-cost year-round tennis activities for middle school students in the ABQ area. #TENNIS4FUTURES
Tennis 4 Futures – Bringing Opportunities to Albuquerque Youth Tennis 4 Futures is a tennis program founded in 2014 with the goal of providing an opportunity for middle school students to play tennis year-round. Melissa Clark, the co-founder of Tennis4Futures, says the idea for the program came out of her experience assisting volunteer head coach Don Larrichio with the Grant Middle School Tennis team. The USTA Northern New Mexico Tennis Association (NNMTA) Fall Mid-School Tennis League started in 1996 and attracts upwards of 700 students playing on nearly 40 teams each year. Tennis4Futures shares the NNMTA vision to further the development of tennis in the local area by bringing tennis opportunities to mid-school students beyond the introduction provided during the fall mid-school tennis season. Tennis4Futures bridges the gap for middle school students who are interested in playing tennis beyond their fall tennis season. Tennis4Futures encourages students to participate in the NNMTA Lucky 7 Rookie Tournament Circuit and pays entry fees as necessary. Tennis skills are taught by co-founders Melissa Morris and Melissa Clark, various University of New Mexico Lobo Tennis Club teaching pros, and other volunteers from the community. Tennis 4 Futures provides a fun, safe environment for the students to develop tennis skills and be part of a team. The program emphasizes the importance of doing well in school, working hard, being healthy, and good sportsmanship. Tennis4Futures sets the groundwork for continued involvement in tennis, from mid-school to high school, and ultimately as a lifetime sport. The sport of tennis teaches important life lessons and can positively influence a student’s life. Tennis4Futures is committed to bringing tennis to those who would not traditionally have access to the game. We look forward to working with the USTA NNMTA Southwest Section to develop and grow Tennis4Futures with the goal of reaching larger numbers of mid-school students in the local area. The majority of Tennis4Futures students are from Grant Middle School and the program provides tennis activities, including free clinics, for up to 12 students. For first full year of the program, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Southwest Section and the Southwest Tennis Foundation awarded grants to Tennis4Futures. These grants partially funded the program, with additional funding from private donations and volunteer hours. For more information on Tennis4Futures please message Melissa Clark or Melissa Morris or email us at [email protected].

Eagles on 3... 🎾 🦅 ⭐️ Eagles with a win for their last regular season match 🔥 Heading into the end of season tournament strong! 🎾
In one week the the Grant Middle School Eagles Tennis Team will be playing in the end of season tournament for the @nnmtaprograms Fall Mid School Tennis League! It’s a short season where the volunteer mid school coaches take students, many of which never picked up a racquet, and in about 8 weeks turn them into tennis players ❤️🎾 The work these student-athletes put in is amazing - there are about 100 things we need to teach them, but can only get to about 20... but it’s just enough to get them through 🤣 Good luck to all the teams next weekend, especially our Eagles ❤️🦅🎾

“I love watching you play” is all you need to say 👍🏼🎾
Parents. Stop the madness. The lectures. The play-by-plays. The analysis. The should’ve, could’ve...
Look around and you will see on every court, field, ballpark...
All the talk.
Think about it.
As an adult, how would you feel if you came out of a huge presentation at work and had someone immediately going over every sentence? How would it feel for someone to criticize your every word or move, in your ear...going on and on???
What would happen, instead, if after a game we gave kids room to breathe; if we let them marinate in knowing we simply enjoyed watching them play; rather than giving them a lecture, what would happen if we instead gave them permission to take it all in and have fun; what if we simply praised them for their effort?
Even when...they didn’t score. Even when...they didn’t win. Even if they turned over the ball, flubbed up, or missed the catch.
What if we just listened? Quietly.
Most likely the child would bring the game up later—they might want to talk about what went well or where they have room to improve.
Maybe they wouldn’t want to discuss it at all.
But, what our children really need to know is that their worth is not measured by wins and losses or missed balls or baskets. And if we want them to have a love of the game... they need to discover the intrinsic joy.
More importantly, if we want a relationship with them, our children need to know we have their backs and that we aren’t their critics.
“I Love Watching You Play.”
If we just tell our kids, “I love watching you play,” everything changes for the better. It’s a game-changer. What’s more—a life changer!
