Need a Training Partner? Get a Dog! - Performance Ranch In 2006, I got my first black lab "Diego," he was my gateway to venturing out on a mountain bike. He was an 18-month-old rescue, that was high-energy and a destroyer of all things he could get his mouth around. I decided to get a rescue dog after watching many episodes of "Dog Whisper.

This week's Bright Spot Friday is Addy. Her parents are members and decided to include Addy since she is active in both soccer and running. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

She just completed the first athlete camp with Coach Bryan and recently tested her 2 mile distance which went from 17:33 to 14:35, a 3 minute difference!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Addy joined Performance Ranch to become a better athlete and the biggest accomplishment according to her so far is "I’ve got guns! My arms are getting stronger and noticeable." She has also noticed that her legs have gotten stronger which will help in soccer and running.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Addy's favorite memory currently at Performance Ranch has been Coach Bryan racing all the summer camp athletes on a field in his Birkenstocks! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Her motivation is to continue training at PR is the coaches and the awesome atmosphere, everyone has been very willing to help with her training and running. Addy has gained strength and power and her running speed has increased. It’s also a bonus when she gets to see Roxy at the gym!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Tabouli is a delicious way to use antioxidant-rich parsley and stomach soothing mint. This zesty salad is a fabulous source of fiber, vitamins A and C, and also calcium. It can be eaten as a side grain salad or as a mid-day meal. This recipe also offers a great alternative to use up left-over rice!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This weeks Bright Spot Friday is Neel Nanda. Neel has been a member of the Performance Ranch since April 2021. In that time we have seen Neel's strength and confidence improve. He joined us to move better and recovery from a past injury. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since he joined us, Neel has has lost 6% body fat (13 lbs) and gained 2 lbs of muscle. With consistent workouts and making small nutritional changes he has seen great results. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With his improved movement skills, he now can work on gaining strength in his squats and deadlifts. While working with his lead coach Nate and other staff members of the Performance Ranch he feels a great sense of community and a supportive environment to reach his goals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Brendan comes from Cambridge, England and moved to the US in fall 2016 to play soccer in college. Brendan was a 1st team All-American while playing and studying at Colorado Mesa University, and prior to this was a professional soccer player in England for Northampton Town FC. He earned his bachelors degree in kinesiology in May 2021, and moved to Albuquerque with his wife Danielle and dog Sirius soon after.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Prior to working at The Performance Ranch, Brendan worked as a strength and conditioning intern at CMU while also working with the men’s and women’s soccer and diving teams. Alongside this he completed his personal training certification through NASM. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It has been a huge relief to know that our state has officially opened up. These last 15 months have been challenging. But I learned a lot about myself and my family in that time. What did Covid teach me? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The changes I made during Covid changed my life. I created new habits that helped me realize my purpose. I found that I am here to inspire the world to fitness and better health. The more I can share, the more people I can help.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have a family history of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. I work out almost daily, I eat healthy 90% of the time, I work on my mental space, and I spend quality time with my loved ones. My goal is to live a long wonderful life filled with joy and happiness.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Here are some accomplishments for Elli and Jim while training with Coach Nate;⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

* Bryce Canyon 50k (which turned out to be a 55k). Jim was 9th in his age group. He would have been in the top 5 but he stayed with Elli for the first half of the run. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Elli placed 7th in her age group which is a big accomplishment considering it was probably the hardest run she has ever done. The amount of steep climbing was like nothing they've experienced and they trained on Pino and La Luz. Elli was proud to say she lost 3 toenails!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
* Deuces Wild Off Road Triathlon which was a week after Bryce Canyon Run. There would be no way they could have done this without training with Coach Nate. This was a 800m swim (which turned out to be 1,100m), 20k on the mountain bike, and an 8k trail run. This was Elli's first Xterra type of triathlon so she was very nervous. Jim did the relay with Trail Dog friend Sarah Burney who did the swim while Jim did the ride and run. They placed 1st in the relay category. Elli placed 2nd in her age group!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
*Upcoming goals - For Elli; Boulder 70.3, maybe Ironman Arizona, Wild West 12 hour relay, and Rock and Roll Arizona 1/2 marathon. For Jim; he is working on Wild West 12 hour solo ride and to help pace their Trail Dog friend, Jeff Linkus, on his 100 mile run coming up.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
