Daydream Equestrian Services

Daydream Equestrian Services Honoring the horse. Empowering the rider. Available for travel and virtual coaching.

Helping riders notice the subtle signs their horse is giving in groundwork and under saddle so they can build calm, emotionally safe partnerships. I specialize in attuned horsemanship for horses who seem quiet, stubborn, or reactive. My work focuses on helping riders understand what their horse is communicating long before behavior shows up. This approach creates emotional safety, clarity, and willingness in both groundwork and riding. I offer travel sessions, virtual coaching, and education for thoughtful riders who want a deeper, more connected partnership with their horse.

I first met Lexi and Vegas at my clinic. They came in with a bucking problem at the canter, and Vegas was pretty fussy with her head on top of it. After the clinic, and before our first lesson I watched some video of them competing and noticed she was counter cantering and cross firing quite a bit, and the bucking was happening mostly when she was trying to sort out her feet or when Lexi came out of the saddle pushing her forward toward home.

So we started there. A couple of small equitation adjustments, balance and body awareness for both of them, and some exercises to work on between lessons. By the next gymkhana there was no bucking, and Lexi shaved a couple of seconds off one of her patterns.

It's been a good reminder of how much tiny changes can ripple through everything. Vegas is so much quieter with her head now too, and the two of them just keep getting more confident together.

This weekend Lexi and Vegas won their division, day end champion and year end champion. Lexi has put in the work, and it really shows. Congratulations you two, this one was earned.

It's a good reminder that the small things matter more than we think. A seat bone, where your toes are pointing, even something as simple as a breath. The details add up, and horses feel every one of them. That last one has been on my mind a lot lately. As promised, I'll be talking more about breathing and its influence on your body soon.

Congratulations Lexi and Vegas!

I've been getting regular massages for a while now. It's one of the things I do to keep my body working well enough to keep riding. I had to cancel my last appointment when life got in the way, so today I tried a new therapist whose schedule worked better with mine at Green Mountain Massage Studio

While she worked through a few stubborn knots, she reminded me to breathe. I was breathing. But I've spent enough years around horses to know that a slow, full exhale is one of the most powerful tools we have, for calming a horse, for calming ourselves, and I had been focusing so much on that exhale that I wasn't fully expanding my chest on the inhale. Belly breathing, yes. A little into my chest, yes. But not fully opening up.

What surprised me was what happened as she worked through those knots. It actually got easier. The restriction wasn't just in my habits, it was in my body. And as things released, there was just more room.

I've been thinking about that ever since I left. How much we carry in our bodies without realizing it, and how much of that our horses feel.

Do you ever think about what your body is doing in the saddle? I'd love to know if this is something you want to dig into together.

It's been a quiet few months around here. Honestly, life just got full. A new job, a busy summer, and a horse who had other plans. But we're still here, still learning, and I've been thinking a lot about what I want this space to be.

I want it to be a place where horse owners feel informed, supported, and a little less alone in the hard parts of this journey. Real horsemanship, practical guidance, and honest conversation from someone who has been doing this for a long time.

So I'm starting fresh, and I'd love your help shaping what comes next. What do you actually want to see more of? Training tips, horse keeping, the messy middle of bringing a horse back into work while rehabbing another? Drop it in the comments, I really want to know.

For those who don't know, this is Ollie. He has absolutely no idea we're reinventing anything. But he did show up looking like this, so clearly he has something to say.

I snuck in another ride on Twist tonight after a run to Plattsburgh where I picked up the Kerrits CoolCore breeches I won at AdirondackTack. He also got a new girth from Shires. Now, how do I keep a blonde horse clean overnight for a 1 day show when stalls aren't an option. 🤔

I spent this rainy day reviewing videos, taking notes, and writing up feedback for a few of you, and I have to say, watching horses and riders work together and being able to really slow it down and look closely is one of my favorite parts of this work.
If you've ever wanted a second set of eyes on what's happening between you and your horse, a video review might be exactly what you need. You don't have to be doing anything wrong to benefit from it. Sometimes you just need someone to help you see what you're already doing right, and where there's a little room to grow.
Feel free to reach out if you're curious about how it works.

The Northeast Kingdom Equine Expo was last weekend. Great energy, great people, and I came home with so much inspiration and a lot to think about. I have some people to thank.

To the expo organizers Beth and Chelsea, thank you for a well run event and for having me. I really enjoyed being part of it. To Katherine, Desteny and Lexi, thank you for bringing your horses and showing up ready to work. It was a good clinic despite the mud and the wind, and I really hope you took something home. I sure did.

To my bestie Danielle and my husband Jason, thanks for coming along and keeping me sane and focused. To my parents, thanks for making the trip to watch and support me, and for taking care of things at home while we were gone.

It was a great weekend. Now off to a horse show!

I still need to post about the big expo weekend, I'm still processing it all, but I also have a show this weekend to get ready for. There's always something, right? Tonight Twist and I headed out for a little adventure up the neighbor's driveway and he loved it! He reluctantly walked across the pasture, but the moment we got through that gate he was all forward energy and fun. We walked, circled back, went a little farther, got a couple of trot transitions in, and he was in his element. Happy, forward, and not too interested in heading home. When I went to grab my phone, he decided standing still wasn't an option and tried to take us up another driveway instead. Not toward the pasture. Up a hill and away to somewhere new and unknown. When we finally made it back into the pasture and the gate closed behind us, he made his feelings pretty clear. The trail ride was over, and he was not happy about it. I think he wants to be a trail horse. Maybe an eventer? Would someone please tell him that if he can prove he can walk, trot, turn and stop, the adventures are endless.

I got another ride in on Twist this evening. He is very good at standing still. We worked hard on halt/walk transitions, and a little backing up. Once the sun started to go down and temps started dripping, he listened much better. We did get a little trot, first time in a couple years, so that was good. Hopefully it will be a cool overcast weekend for the show because my guy doesn't seem to work if it's above 70⁰! 🙄
