We hope you enjoy the holiday with family and friends! Please be vigilant and use all layers of protections when in or near water.
๐บ๐ธ Provide armโs reach supervision while swimming in the pool with your child.
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
๐บ๐ธ Designate a water watcher - this is an adult that is not distracted by alcohol, their cell phone, chatting with other adults, and has constant eyes on the water. Water watching shifts of 10-15 minutes work best - just ensure all adults acting as water watchers are not distracted in any way. Adult supervision is the most effective and important layer of protection.
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
๐บ๐ธ Most drownings occur during NON-SWIM TIMES! Know where your children are at all times. If your child is missing, check the water first.
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
๐บ๐ธ Pool fences, door locks and alarms, and pool alarms are all added layers of protection.
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
๐บ๐ธ Keep pools free of toys that can encourage children to attempt to grab them or enter the water alone to retrieve them.
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
๐บ๐ธ While in the pool, avoid the use of any flotation device (puddle jumpers, arm floaties, noodles, etc.). These devices keep children in a mostly vertical position (THE DROWNING POSITION) and give children a false sense of security.
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
๐บ๐ธ U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets are recommended while boating and in/near natural bodies of water.
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
๐บ๐ธ Consider ISR lessons that equip your child with the skills and opportunity to survive should they find themselves in the water alone. This is ultimately the last layer of protection and can buy you time...time that is crucial. Please note that if your child has these skills, YOUR supervision and ALL layers of protection are still required. No child is drown proof.

Happy 4th of July!

Today marks the first day of Drowning Prevention Month. Itโs not just about swim lessons. Swim lessons statistically do reduce the risk of drowning significantly and is the only barrier than involves the actual child, but there are so many other barriers that need to be in place when water is near! Door locks and alarms, pool fences, undistracted adult supervision, clearing the pool of all toys/floats, and educating and communicating with others about water safety. Please reach out if you have any questions regarding water safety/drowning prevention. You can also look up my previously posted tips under ๐๐ผ
Thankful to be a small contribution to ISRโs big mission: โNot One More Child Drownsโ ๐๐ผ

Maintenance lessons help keep skills sharp and retain confidence! I recommend at least one maintenance lesson per month, but more is never a bad idea! ๐๐ผ Maintenance sign ups are available on my website - offering them on Sunday afternoons! As your child completes his/her session, you will also be added to my email list for maintenance opportunities that pop up during the week!
