He's here. Coach Derrick Cardinal is officially part of Aledo Wrestling Club.

Four-time Minnesota state champion. Titles in four different weight classes. 240-30 with 109 pins. NCAA Division I qualifier at 133 for South Dakota State.

That's the résumé. Here's why it matters to your family: Derrick is also an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist and a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, so our wrestlers get the full picture — technique on the mat, strength in the weight room, fueling and making weight the right way, and the mental side of competing under pressure.

He'll be on the mat at practice and available for private lessons, small-group work, match review, weight management and mindset prep.

AWC is the only club in the area training year-round, five days a week, with paid professional coaches. Derrick is what that commitment looks like.

Teaching kids how to wrestle, making sure they have fun while learning and keeping them safe during the process are our top priorities at Aledo Wrestling Club.

🧹 Mat hygiene is an enormous part of keeping our kids safe.

🧼 We clean our mats daily. That's 5 times per week.

🛀 Personal hygiene is the other part - and that's where our families come into the equation.

Here's the truth about ringworm: it survives in the environment for a year or longer. No matter how well we clean the mats, we cannot scrub out every fungal spore. And Staph is already living on healthy skin — it just needs one open spot to become a problem.

That means the room only stays clean if home stays clean.

Swipe through all 8 steps of our Skin Infection Protocol:

Treat lesions immediately. Clean the gear. Wash properly. Use barrier cream. Check skin daily. Treat fully — not just until it looks better.

One more thing, because it matters: skin checks are not the coach's job. Fellow parents, that one is on us! 🔍

And when in doubt, get it checked. Ringworm is the least of your worries — Staph and Herpes Gladiatorum are far more serious.

Clean gear. Clean skin. Healthy wrestlers.

Fall wrestling is starting at Aledo Wrestling Club.

Here's what you can expect from us: our coaches know your kid's name. They know what your kid is working on this week, what they struggled with last week, and they'll talk to you about it after practice.

That sounds simple. It's the whole thing.

Wrestling is hard.

Kids stay in it when the room feels like somewhere they belong — when a coach notices them, corrects them, and expects something from them.

Everything else follows from that.
