I've never been. Not because I don't desperately want to go. I do. I've just always also desperately wanted that first trip to be with my grandmother, who understandably, it's always just been to painful for.

It's where she, the undeniable matriarch of our family, was born and raised. It's where her and my grandfather's love story began, and it's where my Father was born. And I've never been.

43 years old, 3rd generation, and I've been drawn to everything about it since my teenage years. Yet and it's still only a place of dreams to me. I've heard stories all my life from Abuela y Abuelo, uncles, cousins and other family members, of all the beauty and all the horrors. It's profoundly sad to me, realizing just how normalized the horror stories had become up until now.

This is not a Democratic or Republican issue, so please don't make it one. It's a humanitarian issue.

Just 90 miles from our shore and America can get in everyone else's business but Cuba's!?!?? BU****IT!!

I know there's a history there and I don't claim to have a mastery of international politics, but BU****IT!!

Please share and do what you can, this issue isn't receiving nearly the coverage it should be, and it's all because of BU****IT!! Please don't let the BU****IT keep you silent.

So, in the spirit of new beginnings, I felt now was as good a time as any to show and tell a bit of my own story.⠀

I started off as the kid who couldn't gain a pound to save his life, (yes, I had hair once upon a time). ⠀
⠀
Early / Mid 20's hit and it felt like I woke up one day and barely recognized the man in the mirror. Truthfully I must've just gotten used to it for a while until I saw some of the pictures here from my sister's College graduation (the maroon striped shirt pics).⠀

Knowing I wanted to make a change, but having no idea where to start, I reached out to a good friend who was working in fitness. ⠀
⠀
I'll always owe huge debts of gratitude to him and 2 other friends in particular. Attila, Jeff, and Pliney who motivated, inspired me & showed me the ropes. ⠀
⠀
It was tough as hell and I can still remember feeling horribly out of shape and wondering when I'd see the changes.⠀
⠀
I still can't pinpoint the day, but at some point I finally began feeling and seeing the changes. I say feeling first for a reason, but that's another post. Suffice to say I felt better about myself, and people started interacting differently with me, as that new confidence was being reflected back to me. ⠀

Somewhere along the way it became my lifestyle, my thing, and one of my life's great loves and I couldn't wait to help others who had been where I'd been or beyond, get to where I now was.... and beyond.⠀

It remains a source of confidence and pride to this day, but more than that, a passion that I still love to share and am blessed to make a living doing. ⠀

I've walked the long hard walk, so trust, when I talk the talk, it's coming from a place of compassion, understanding, and a true belief, a KNOWLEDGE that you can do it too, and I LOVE seeing the transformation inside and out when you do.⠀
