Fall always makes me want to get more specific about what I’m working on, which is where these classes came from. 😁 Every Tuesday this fall has its own focus. Some weeks it’s strong legs and balance, some weeks it’s crow pose, some weeks it’s all hips and shoulders and letting go of whatever you’ve been carrying around in them.

Accountability and gratitude are the two traits I think of as autumn ones, so you’ll hear them in the intention I set at the start of each class. 🧘🏽‍♀️

Come to one, come to all of them, come to whichever ones sound like what your body needs. They’re all up on the app through the fall, so you can grab a few now and have them on your calendar. 🗓️

I’ll also have copies of my journal, Mindset Journal by Heba, at the front desk starting next Tuesday if you want to keep going with any of this off the mat. 📔

🌱 Tuesdays 11am at Pulse Yoga, Lake Ridge
Starting Sept 29 · book on the app

There’s this point in a decision where the research stops really being research, and I think most of us know exactly when we’ve crossed it even if we keep going anyway.

You’re still comparing and asking around and reading one more review, and it feels productive enough … but it also starts following you into every week like a to-do you never get to cross off.

That’s actually why I made the Values Based Decision Matrix in the first place! I needed something to get me out of that loop, and what it does is lay out how each of your options lines up with what matters most to you in this season of your life, which is usually the piece nobody has taken time to think about explicitly

I’m walking through it this Friday, September 25 at 10am Eastern on Zoom. It’s free, I’m keeping it to 30 people so we can work through some real examples together, and I won’t be sharing a recording, so I’d love for you to be there live.

Registration link is in my bio.

I stalled on a yoga teacher training for almost a year before I finally signed up for one. I kept telling myself I was doing my research, comparing the programs, waiting for a better time in my schedule … and what I was really doing was making sure I couldn’t pick the wrong one and get stuck with it.

What actually got me to move wasn’t feeling more sure about the program I ended up choosing. It was realizing that almost none of what I was scared of was permanent anyway, and that the year I’d spent not deciding had already cost me way more than a wrong training ever could have.

So if you’re carrying one of these around, bring it Thursday! September 17 at 7:30 EST, it’s free, and we’ll run it through the matrix together so you actually leave with it closer to decided.

Registration link is in my bio. See you there!

I keep meeting people who are carrying a decision around like a stone in their pocket. They’ve been thinking about it for months. They’ve asked four different people what they would do, and now they have four answers and somehow less clarity than when they started!

I don’t think that’s an information problem. I think most of us were never taught how to get clear on what we actually want out of a choice, so every option ends up looking about equally reasonable and we go looking for one more opinion instead of deciding.

I built something for this called the Values-Based Decision Matrix, and on Thursday, September 17 at 7:30PM EST I’m going to walk through exactly how to use it. It’s free.

Bring a decision you’re really sitting with. It could be a job or a move or a relationship, or it could be something that sounds small, like whether to finally commit to the workout schedule you keep almost starting. Small ones work just as well for learning it. We’ll run yours through the matrix together and you’ll leave with it filled in, instead of leaving with one more thing to think about later. Bring your questions too. I’m saving time at the end for them.

Registration is in my bio. It asks what decision you’re bringing, so have one in mind before you sign up. There are 30 seats and it’s live only.

Everybody has a key of life. I really believe that, and I don’t think it’s something you earn or build so much as something already true about you that nobody has told you yet.

It doesn’t show up evenly, though. Some seasons it’s obvious and some seasons you’re too deep in the daily work of your life to see any of it, and I think that’s when people start wondering whether they have one at all. But ask the people who love you and they’ll tell you in about two seconds. They’ve been watching from a seat you don’t have access to.

And if it isn’t clear to you from where you’re sitting right now, that might just be a matter of where you’re sitting. Try the thing you’ve been curious about, take the class, say yes to something a little outside of what you’d normally do. New angles have a way of showing you what was already there.

So what’s your key of life? I really want to know. ☺️

There’s no applause for the private version of you, which I think is what makes it so hard! When you’re consistent in front of people you usually get something back for it, and when you keep a promise to yourself on a random Tuesday morning there’s nothing waiting on the other side except knowing you did it.

I notice this most in the smallest things, like the quiet time in the morning that nobody is checking on, or the journaling I told myself I’d do and could skip without a single person ever finding out … and some mornings I do skip it, honestly. But the mornings I don’t are the ones that seem to hold the rest of the day together, even though nobody sees them happen.

What’s the thing you do that nobody would ever know about?

I’ll be at The Legacy of Her on September 24, and I’ve been thinking about who got me here.

When I was in my hardest season I couldn’t see a way through any of it. I don’t really remember the timeline of how things got better, but I remember the people who stuck around while it was still bad. My family stayed, a few friends stayed, and there were providers who kept treating me like I was going to come back long before I believed it myself.

Gratitude is one of the eight traits I write about, and it changes when you stop thinking about it in general and name the actual person.

So WHO was that for you, and what did they leave you with?

Tickets are still available at thelegacyofher.net for the luncheon in Manassas, Northern Virginia, and there’s room for sponsors too. Come sit with us.

The moments I’m proudest of aren’t the ones where being myself was free.

Anyone can be authentic in a room where everyone already agrees with them! It’s the expensive version that actually tells you something, when you know saying the true thing is going to cost you time or energy or somebody’s good opinion of you, and you say it anyway.

The most recent one for me was writing an essay about why I practice yoga as a Christian. It cost me a lot of hours of research and thinking, and it cost me the comfort of everyone agreeing with me. Some people still don’t agree with where I landed, and some find it odd that I care about being consistent about it at all. I made my peace with both, because not saying it would have cost me more.

What’s a decision that cost you something and you’d make again?
