Glenmora’s Ashworth earns All-Parish Coach of the Year after guiding Wildcats to state title

Grace’s Maricle, ASH’s Phoenix earn top All-Parish individual honors

Gary Ashworth arrived at Glenmora High School two years ago as the Wildcats said goodbye to one of the most talented baseball classes in the school’s history.

Despite the departures of all-state shortstop/pitcher Cameren Parks, All-Parish second baseman/pitcher Keyan Bordelon and All-Parish catcher Hunter Gillespie, Ashworth walked into a situation with extremely high expectations thanks to a loaded freshman class and a rich baseball history in Glenmora.

Fast forward two years, and those freshmen are now upperclassmen who formed the backbone of Ashworth’s 2026 team that went 20-5 and won not only the District 5-B championship but also the school’s first baseball state championship.

For his efforts in guiding Glenmora to heights never before seen at the school, Ashworth has been selected as the Rapides Parish Coach of the Year on the 2026 All-Parish Baseball Team presented by One T Photography.

Ashworth is joined by Grace Christian sophomore Logan Maricle and Alexandria Senior High junior Bryson Phoenix as the recipients of the highest individual honors on the All-Parish team.

Maricle, who went 12-0 with a 0.24 ERA, is the recipient of the All-Parish Pitcher of the Year honor, while Phoenix earned the Hitter of the Year honor after batting .394 with a parish-high five home runs and team-high nine doubles, 30 RBIs, 33 runs and 33 stolen bases.

The All-Parish Baseball Team, which was selected by One T Photography after consultation with the parish’s baseball coaches and local sports media personalities, consists of the top 15 players in the parish by position along with 15 additional players categorized as “Best of the Rest” regardless of position.

ASH, which advanced to the Division I Select quarterfinals, led the way with six total selections, including four on the first team. Tioga and Glenmora each had five selections, with Tioga placing four on the first team and Glenmora placing three on the first team.

Buckeye featured four Best of the Rest selections, while Menard and Grace Christian each put three players on the team, including one of the first team. Oak Hill had two Best of the Rest selections, while Pineville and Plainview each had one player on the first team.

Introducing the 2026 Rapides Parish All-Parish Baseball Team:

PITCHER: Ryan Crooks, Jr., Tioga – The District 2-4A Most Valuable Pitcher makes the All-Parish team for a second straight season after compiling a 5-3 record, including a shutout against Pineville and a victory over ASH, with a 2.06 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 57 ⅔ innings.

PITCHER: Clayton Doyal, Sr., ASH – An All-Parish selection in 2025, Doyal turned in another strong season on the mound for the Trojans, earning first-team honors in District 2-5A after going 6-4 with a 1.60 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 51 innings as he helped lead ASH to the Division I Select quarterfinals.

PITCHER: Jack Lee, Jr., ASH – The LSU commitment took a huge leap after two consecutive Best of the Rest selections, consistently sitting in the low 90s and topping out with a velocity at 95 mph. Lee earned a spot on the District 2-5A first team after going 6-4 on the season with two saves, a 2.60 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 56 innings.

PITCHER: Logan Maricle, So., Grace Christian – The 6-foot-3 left-hander went from solid as a freshman, when he was selected as Best of the Rest, to spectacular as a sophomore, earning the All-Parish Pitcher of the Year honor after posting a 12-0 record with a 0.24 ERA and 190 strikeouts. On the season, Maricle tossed four no-hitters, three shutouts and three games where he struck out 16 or more batters.

CATCHER: Brayden Holloway, Jr., Glenmora – The first-team all-district selection in District 5-B followed up a Best of the Rest selection last year by batting a team-high .438 on the season with a .550 on-base percentage, five doubles, two triples and 26 RBIs. He also posted a 5-2 record on the mound with a 1.75 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched.

FIRST BASE: Kayden Coghlan, Jr., Tioga – One of the most threatening bats in Rapides Parish, Coghlan did not have as consistent of a year as a junior as he had in 2025, when he was an All-Parish selection as an outfielder, batting .286 with eight doubles, one triple, one home run, 14 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

SECOND BASE: Cullyn Robbins, So., Glenmora – Robbins played four different positions in the infield, outfield and on the mound for the Wildcats, finishing second on the team with a .405 batting average, .490 on-base percentage, five doubles and 19 RBIs at the plate while going 6-1 with a 1.65 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 30 ⅓ innings on the mound.

THIRD BASE: Austyn Taylor, Sr., Pineville – An All-Parish selection at utility in 2025, Taylor was once again reliable and steady both at the top of the Rebels’ lineup and on the mound, batting .344 with a .471 on-base percentage, 10 doubles, one home run and 18 RBIs while going 4-4 with a 3.80 ERA in 47 innings pitched.

SHORTSTOP: Jaxon Ross, Sr., ASH – The three-year starter and LSUA signee shook off a rough junior year at the plate, earning a spot on the District 2-5A first team after leading the Trojans with a team-high .411 batting average, .472 on-base percentage, five doubles, two triples, 24 RBIs and 27 runs.

OUTFIELD: Christian Iles, Sr., Tioga – Perhaps the best defensive outfielder in Rapides Parish, the Indians’ center fielder did not make a single error all season while batting .300 and hitting four doubles with 19 RBIs.

OUTFIELD: Bryson Phoenix, Jr., ASH – After missing his first two seasons due to an injury and transfer, Phoenix established himself as one of the best players in Rapides Parish just like he did on the football field. An All-Parish selection on the defensive line in the fall, Phoenix earned the All-Parish Hitter of the Year honor after leading the parish with five home runs while batting .394 with a .504 on-base percentage, and team highs of nine doubles, 30 RBIs, 33 runs and 33 stolen bases, earning first-team honors in District 2-5A.

OUTFIELD: J.D. Shelton, Sr., Menard – The Eagles’ left fielder was the team’s top hitter on the season with a .375 batting average, seven doubles, three triples, 16 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

DESIGNATED HITTER: Trey Harper, Jr., Tioga – The District 2-4A Most Valuable Player, who was a Best of the Rest selection two seasons ago as a freshman, led the Indians with a team-high .348 batting average, eight doubles, two triples, three home runs and 22 RBIs while also posting a .994 fielding percentage behind the plate.

UTILITY: Caleb Calhoun, Sr., Plainview – After being a Best of the Rest selection in 2025, Calhoun turned in an outstanding senior season on the mound and at the plate, going 8-3 on the season with a 1.74 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 76 ⅔ innings pitched while batting .538 with a .630 on-base percentage, seven doubles, 27 RBIs, 31 stolen bases and 35 runs scored.

UTILITY: Wyatt Gillispie, Jr., Glenmora: The District 5-B MVP, who was a Best of the Rest selection last season, posted a 7-1 record on the mound, including a complete-game victory over Pitkin in the Class B title game, to lead the Wildcats to their first state baseball championship in school history. Gillespie finished the season with a 1.63 ERA and 51 strikeouts while walking just 12 in 51 â…“ innings pitched while batting .368 with a .515 on-base percentage, six doubles, one triple, one home run, 13 RBIs and 32 runs scored.

Rylee Cedus, Jr., OF, Oak Hill: An All-Parish outfielder in 2025, Cedus earned District 5-B first-team honors this year after batting .353 with 14 extra-base hits, 18 RBIs and 40 runs scored while posting a 2.78 ERA on the mound and striking out 60 batters.

Cooper Courtright, Sr., UT, Grace Christian: A Best of the Rest selection for the second straight season, Courtright batted .356 from the Warriors’ leadoff spot with six home runs, 13 doubles, 38 RBIs, 56 runs scored and a perfect 27-for-27 in stolen-base attempts while also posting four saves as the team’s closer.

Ty Curtis, Sr., DH, Buckeye: The All-Parish football standout led the Panthers with a .395 batting average and .458 on-base percentage while adding 34 hits, 10 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Spencer Daniels, Sr., C, Oak Hill: A first-team District 5-B selection at utility, Daniels was the Rams’ leading hitter this season with a .388 batting average, one home run, 14 extra-base hits, 26 RBIs and 35 runs.

Logan Eaves, So., Utility, Glenmora: If there’s an example of a true utility player, it’s Logan Eaves, who spent time at seven different positions for the state-champion Wildcats this season. He batted .370 on the season with a .477 on-base percentage, three doubles and 22 RBIs for the Class B state champions.

Caden Extine, Sr., 3B, ASH: A three-time All-Parish selection at second base and third base, who has one of best eyes and most-disciplined bats in the parish, Extine batted .307 on the season with a .400 on-base percentage, three doubles, 14 RBIs and 17 runs.

Justin Hunt, Jr., LHP, Buckeye: The tall left-hander handled the pressure of taking over the role of Panther ace from last year’s All-Parish Pitcher of the Year, Adam Brodnax, with no issues, going 6-2 on the season with a 1.65 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 42 ⅓ innings pitched.

Ryan Langston, Jr., OF, Glenmora: The Wildcats’ center fielder, a first-team selection in District 5-B, held down the middle of the outfield all season, making just one error and batting .388 with a .500 on-base percentage, one double and 18 RBIs.

Brady McDaniel, So., RHP/3B/1B, Grace Christian: A corner infielder and pitcher, McDaniel emerged as the Warriors’ No. 2 star in 2026, posting an 11-3 record on the mound with two saves, a 1.13 ERA and 100 strikeouts while batting .423 with four home runs, 14 doubles, 60 RBIs and 43 runs scored.
