Welcome to the page for Lightning Fleet #50, a Dixie District fleet of the International Lightning Class Association (ILCA).

We are affiliated with the Potomac River Sailing Association (PRSA), and we race and cruise our one-design Lightning sailboats on the Potomac River out of the Washington Sailing Marina just south of Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington DC.

Several PRSA / Lightning Fleet 50 sailors took part in the Severn Sailing Association's Frigid Digit Regatta this past weekend! Aaron Boesenecker, Piercarlo Brunino, Jeff Witten, Tim O'Brien, and Ed Stacey were all on the water. It was tough competition, with former NA Champs, the USA Team for the PanAm games, and other top-notch racers on the water. Congrats to Team Beedobeat (USA 14592) on taking 7th in a tough fleet after 5 days of great (and very choppy!) racing in Annapolis! Greetings Sailors and Happy Spring!

Our Lightning Dixie District sailing season started this weekend with the Moonshine Regatta and next on the calendar is the 35th Annual Doc Gilbert Potomac Cup, May 11-12th at Leesylvania State Park.

I wanted to invite you to our signature regatta in beautiful Leesylvania State Park and ask that you please pass this email along to your Lightning friends. We fortunate once again welcome back Bruce Bingham as our PRO and will be looking forward to hosting a great event for everyone. We realize that May brings a full calendar of events for your calendars, but we would like to make sure our regatta is part of your schedule!

Four Ways You Can Help:

1) Sign-Up! The more boats we have signed up, the greater the turnout! Please sign up on the “Who Coming” on the ILCA racing calendar: https://lightningclass.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=4002&club_id=93488&item_id=849346

2) Register. Please register Regatta Network (also listed on the ILCA Racing Calendar). Please click on the link http://www.regattanetwork.com/event/18807 to register. A strong showing of registered boats will encourage others who may not have attended recently to come sail with us again.

3) Spread the word…ask other fleet members if they are planning to attend or forward this email to other Lightning Sailors to get them involved. If you have any questions or need additional information or help with housing, please let me know.

4) Please volunteer at the Leesylvania State Park Clean up on Saturday, May 4th from 9:00-12:00pm. This is how we give back to Leesylvania State Park for allowing us the opportunity to have the pavilion and camp on site for our event. We need volunteers to make this happen…Ask you friends and family if they would like to give a few hours of their time to help support a beautiful state park and our sailing club!

On behalf of Fleet 50, we are looking forward to hosting everyone once again and having a memorable event! We can't wait to see you in Leesylvania on the 11th-12th.

PRSA Crew Connection 04/13/2019

Ready for more racing? ⚡️⛵️⚡️

Great turnout of 8 Lightnings for the opening of the Spring Series last weekend. Light southerlies in the morning built to 10-15 kts by the end of the day allowing for four relatively long-course races.

The forecast for this Sunday is similar, but starts stronger out of the SE and continues to build in the afternoon. Should make for great racing.

If you're looking for crew or a boat to race on, there have been a few posts on the PRSA and Fleet 50 boards and there is plenty of time to get something lined up, see the link below for more.

Skippers meeting at 1000, see you on the water!

PRSA Crew Connection There are far too many fun sailboats and sailor sitting idle. The purpose of this list is to connect crew to skippers and vice versa.  You don't need to join the group to see who is looking for crew or to be crew.  If you see a skipper or crew who might be a fit for you, please conta...
