we had a wonderful weekend at Atlanta participating in HSNCT, seeing the city, and meeting other students. Enormous thank you's to TJ's Partnership Fund, TJ Academic Boosters, and Coach Fu and Mr. Anderson for making this trip possible through their generosity.
Here's a collection of photos from our time exploring the city and participating in the tournament

Profiles in Courage (8/8)
And finally, the man you’ve all been waiting for. Last and most certainly not least: William Wang
Since middle school, William has had a knack for rising through the quizbowl ranks quickly and furiously. It all started back in Longfellow Middle School, his growth slowly nurtured with a zeal to overcome his brothers’ strength. That dedication and sheer power brought him to become the 2016 US Academic Bee national champion and decisively secure second place at the 2016 MSNCT. But middle school quizbowl just wasn’t enough for him...
At TJ, William set out with just one goal. Make TJHSST Quizbowl Great Again. Since freshman year, he’s been setting out new initiatives left and right for the club. Everything from this page to Trivia Night has all been birthed from his vision of a new club. You could see the zeal and determination in his eyes as he barges into your English class to organize club finances. His diligence and rightfully earned status as judge, jury, and executioner strikes true fear in all the underclassmen around him that he has been bestowed legendary titles such as El Tigre Numero Uno. However, William doesn’t settle for nonsense. Don’t even bother asking Pratyush Jainshekar or William Graf how many times they’ve been kicked out of our club chat. ⚠️Spoiler Alert⚠️ Too many to count.
At tournaments however, he’s on a whole different level. History, Fine Arts, Chinese Mythology? Bah, you joke. A can of Coca-Cola™ in one hand and an Anderson buzzer in the other, the battle is often decided before the first-line of a tossup is read. It’s a shame the nation’s high schools couldn’t witness his raw power at nationals for one last time...
William will be going on to attend the University of Chicago to major in Computer Science. Will he go on to conquer UChicago quizbowl? What will happen to the club without his guidance and his domination? Who will sit in his throne at Room 233 in his absence next year? We can only sit in amazement and anticipation.

Profiles in Courage (7/8)
His anime watchlist is thicker than my flashcard deck. Rumor has it he reads atlases. For fun. He once came to school wrapped in tinfoil: for school spirit, he said. 9/10 freshmen can’t identify him without his beard. I present to you the man, the myth, the legend: Prithvi Nathan.
When I first met Prithvi I laughed him off. I knew the type - the school Geo Bee champ. I bet he read atlases for fun. It wasn’t until I first sat next to him in Honors Biology 9 that I realized the gravity of my mistake. As I struggled to understand the difference between meiosis and mitosis, Prithvi read silently from his ever present edition of Barron’s: AP Biology. By the time I finally figured out in my sophomore year, Prithvi was skipping Quizbowl tournaments to attend Neuroscience conventions.
When he’s not trouncing his competition in geography or researching the next big genetic breakthrough, Prithvi is what some might call a “man of culture”. Some might ask, how does this help with Quizbowl. Allow me to enlighten you.
Imagine: you’re down by 10, it’s the last tossup. Shoot, its cellular biology. You shouldn’t have slept through those biology lectures back in freshman year; you should have carried around your own edition of Barron’s: AP Biology as Prithvi had. But it’s too late for that now. Then, a buzz - it’s Prithvi.
Gosh darn it Prithvi, you think to yourself, when the question said “this state” it didn’t mean --
Then you hear it: “15!”, says the moderator. You are shocked. You look towards Prithvi questioningly. はたらく細胞 (translation: Cells at Work!), he says in perfect Japanese (as do all men of culture). You can only nod your head in your amazement.
