It was a little sporty on the lake this morning, but we're told it's not bad at the moment. Kaden just reeled in this beautiful brown trout. It'll be entered in the Shanty Days Fishing Contest tonight. Kids ($5) and adults ($10) can get tickets at Algoma Citgo or Graf's Mobil. The tournament ends at 10 a.m. Sunday, with about $1,500 in prizes. You don't even have to weigh a fish to win something at Sunday's awards.

Tickets for this weekend's Shanty Days Fishing Contest are available at Algoma Citgo and Graf's Mobil; $5 for youths and $10 for adults.

Want to fish before Friday? Kids can text photos all week, whenever they are out and catch something they'd like to share. The number is (920) 883-9792. You must include name of angler(s).

Friday and Saturday weigh-ins for Great Lakes fish (and anything the kids want to keep, or bring in alive) are 9-10:30 a.m. and 8:30-9:15 p.m. inside the city marina fish cleaning station. Sunday's final weigh-in is 9-10 a.m at the pavilion just west of the city marina. Photos for the kids contest can be texted all weekend, until 9 a.m. Sunday. The awards presentation and random draw prizes begins at 10:30 a.m.

One 25-pound lake trout is rare enough, but how about two 25s on the same trip? Yes, that happened this morning on Fishin' Magician charters! Capt. Jim said one showed 25.5 and the other 25.8 on the scale.

Algoma has three of the top four spots through opening weekend of the K/D Salmon Tournament! All were caught on private boats.

Meanwhile, charters continued to get big numbers of all sizes and multiple species over the weekend. Morning trips were the most popular, but check out a couple of the evening hauls!

Heat advisory next couple days. A west wind will make it hot even at the beach, but it'll be cooler on the water!
