31 years ago today, on October 28, 1995, the Atlanta Braves beat Cleveland 1-0 in Game 6 to win the World Series. It was Atlanta’s first major pro sports championship and the franchise’s first title since 1957.

They did it against a 100-win Cleveland team with one of the most feared lineups of the decade, on the strength of the best rotation of its era.

⚾ THE CURSE IS BROKEN ⚾

22 years ago tonight, on October 27, 2004, the Boston Red Sox swept the St. Louis Cardinals to win their first World Series since 1918, ending the Curse of the Bambino after 86 years.

And how they got there: down 3-0 to the Yankees in the ALCS, Boston became the first team in MLB history to come back from 0-3 in a postseason series. Then they kept going, winning eight straight games for the title.

Fun fact: there was a total lunar eclipse over St. Louis on the night the curse ended.

Which 2004 Red Sox hero is your favorite?

🏀 HOOPS AND HARDWOOD: WHERE IT ALL BEGAN 🏀

42 years ago today, on October 26, 1984, a rookie named Michael Jordan made his NBA debut at Chicago Stadium.

His first line: 16 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals in a 109-93 Bulls win over the Washington Bullets. Fun fact: Charles Barkley and John Stockton made their NBA debuts the same night.

Nobody knew it yet, but that night changed basketball, sneakers, sports marketing and the hobby forever. Six championships and five MVPs later, MJ is still the measuring stick, and his cards are still the chase.

What’s your favorite Michael Jordan card of all time?
