" THE WEATHER MAY BE IFF-Y . . . BUT THE LOCAL WATERS HAVE BEEN FISH-Y ! ! ! "

Found myself, like many of you . . . On the Fishin' Fence . . . tring to decide wether or not to test the Weather and take my Nephew out Fishing before school starts in a week . . . like I promised the . . . beginning of Summer.

Deciding to risk a wet seat . . . and being not wanting to live with the guilt of not getting out . . . We Went.

At Three Oaks boats were going out, they were open but did warn us if the storms came we'd be called in.

Weather was perfect, Lake was calm and I think there was only one other boat rented when we got there at 8am.

Tried a couple things, wind was to slow to drift so did a light E-motor troll with some new Walleye Spinners. The overcast and potential Rain seemed like that could be the ticket.

Nephew got on the board twice . . . With a lighter presentation right away. And I had the rig ready and crawler on but didnt get to drop the Bait in as I was playing captain and Small Fish Hook Removal Surgeon . . .

Wind died all the way down so went to a faster motor troll and could see that my nephew needed to go heavier with his drop shop weight but he didn't want to pull up the bait yet so I dropped the Walleye Spinner w/ crawler harness.

We were both fishing the same side so when he got taps . . . I new I had about 10 seconds till my bait covered the same spot . . .

He started getting taps . . . Could be w**ds could be more Bait-Stealers . . . the light weigh and lighter spinning combo just wasn't the right set up with having to moter to drift . . .

. .10 seconds later my Medium Heavy Combo and the Walleye Rigs found a fish . . . Which then found about 20 pounds of w**ds . . . After pulling off the lettuce it was a nice Large Mouth (solid 5 #).

I had my Fish . . . we re-rigged to adjust to lighter rigs to just fish simple and light and jig under the boat . . . And my nephew found Crappie.

As it would happen . . . Time started to run out and after about 3 or 4x . . . "This is the last drop" . . . my Nephew said one more and dropped the other side of the boat . . . It was time to go go . . . . and so I started packing up my stuff figuring we were done . . . and I here . . .

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ - (pause) - ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ - (double pause) ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ -

. . and my nephew has both arms straight out in front of him and the rod was FLAT-LINED STRAIGHT like he was water-skiing . . .

- ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ - (pause) - ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ - ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ - ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ -

" BINK !!!! "

It RAN, and it RAN . . . And left us with just questions . . .

● Was it To many runs to be a Pike

● Was it FAST enough to be a Musky

● I DON'T want to even consider what size Walleye or Bass it would have had to been

● Sure moved like a Big Channel . . . A ThreeOaks Channel . . . Maybe?

● And . . . It could have been a _ _ _ _ !

What ever it was 8 # mono and a light action Crappie Rod wasn't prepared for that fish . . . It did make for a Good Story!

We had some Fun!
We caught Fish !
Weather stayed perfect !

. . And We got Out !!!

Remember two things from this Story.

The . . .
BAIT SHANTY IS OPEN . . .

TIP OF THE WEEK
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

Early this week, A Sales Man from a Tackle Supplier stopped in to drop off a Catalog of what they carry and showed me some items we'll be bringing into the shop. He also had some Custom Made Walleye Worm Rigs from Lake Earie

. . BIG MEAN LOOKING ONES ALMOST TO A COMMICAL SIZE . . . WITH STEEL LEADERS BUILT IN . . .

I mentioned they looked GREAT . . . But thy were HUGE WITH MASSIVE BLADES AND BIG HOOKS . . . and Laughed . . . We dont really have that kind of water or walleye here . . .

I bought some things we needed here (ask about those when your in the shop) and then Guilted the Salesman to leaving one of the Smallest of the Walleye Rigs in . . . I figured I'd give it a shot at Three Oaks . . . And took the Smaller Purple/Chartreuse one

Wednesday when I went out for 2 hours I fished my regular way got the Two Largemouths and a Nice Smallie and decided to Run Walleye Spinner back from where I was Fishing to the Marina .

Rigged the Biggest crawler and started moving the boat and within seconds it was at bottom and getting taps . . . then a bite . . . And a miss . . .

Then nothing, seemed like the Rig was running funny, probably w**ds or the rear treble tangled the line on the miss . . . But I didn't really have time or the Inclination to pull it in or re-set it as I was already close to the marina and the wind was blowing enough that it didnt seem to be worth it for another 100 yards.

So I pulled the Rig in . . . But it was way off to the right side now and It didnt feel like the blades were spinning and as it closed in I could see something hanging from the last hook . . . "WEEDS" i thought . . .

Well,

It turned out to be a D**K Perch that mouth grabbed a Rig bigger than it was and it had been under-water water skiing the ride back . . .

Well "Son-of-a-Beeswax!!!" . . .

. . So what did We all Learn today . . .

* Walleye Rigs need to be checked regularly . . . Especially after multiple Hits

*If your trolled bait KITES to the side of your path . . . You probably have a Fish (small fish)

* Perch are aggressive little "M/F's" . . .

* The depth I had used (matched from my drift for the BASS) put me in the zone where the prey size Perch were (Always keep notes when trolling: speed, location, depth, w**d?, species encounterd) . . .

* Had I fished longer . . . There was a good change I might find what was looking for that Perch . . .

* Yeah, even a small fish on first drop means I need to order the Rigs in for everyone to try. They Run Great. And are on 28 # flex-wire leaders so they can be used for Pike too . . . and I need to order the right bouncers too!

Oh Yeah . . . The most important thing I learned . . .

☆☆☆ I need to get out and Fish more !!! ☆☆☆

" IT'S SUMMER . . . ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN "

Nice Temps have made getting out comfortable the last couple days and it looks like the weekend should be nice too !!!

Bigger Ponds and Deep Lakes seem to be the Hot Ticket, as they handle the lower water table better than the streams and rivers.

Shallow water can add heat to the water temps and harm fish
Be sepecially careful with Musky, Pike, and deep water Bass as top water can hit 90f+ but near thermocline (deep) can be 40f Colder . . . Releasing fish that are Tired, Exhausted, or Fish that been in cooler water for a while can have issues when released in spots with or at water strata with lower suspended oxygen near the surface of a warm lake and because of this, it can take alot more time to revive and release a bigger fish . . . Work it back and forth slowly and gently and Wait till the Fish Swims away on its own, and even then . . . Wait a little longer to make sure it dosen't come back up.
*** Bait needs EXTRA care now as well. Use AERATION and COOL PACKS to minimize Loss , and DO-NOT leave Worms or Leeches in your Hot Car
!!! ***

All around . . . The Bite Can be good if you adapt to the conditions (heat and lower water levels) . . . or Fish Later or Earlier.

BETWEEN THE FRESH BAIT AND NEW TACKLE, FEELS LIKE NEW HOT ITEMS ARE ARRIVING ALMOST EVERY DAY . . . WE GOT WHAT YOU NEED !!!
