How long have you been doing CrossFit?

Why do you do CrossFit?
Constantly varied functional movements executed at high intensity. There is really nothing like it. I get to workout as many days as I want and I keep my body guessing. Constantly challenging myself and working my body in different ways means I am always getting better!
What do you like most about CrossFit?
The classic answer that everyone says: the community. I think it’s classic because it’s so true. It’s really what sets CrossFit apart from any other form of fitness I’ve been a part of. I will only push myself so hard when I’m by myself, but the encouragement and challenge of my friends pushes me to work harder and work better.
I also love that it gives me space to try new things and movements I never imagined I would be able to do!
How has CrossFit changed you?
It challenges me everyday. It challenges me in the expected way of moving faster, moving better, lifting heavier, learning new movements, etc. It also challenges me to reevaluate and appreciate what abilities I have now. It helps me remember the importance of rest and mobility and nutrition. All in all, it challenges me to be a more well-rounded athlete.
What has surprised you the most since you started CrossFit?
I was so nervous to start. I thought I wouldn’t be strong enough or the workouts would be too hard. CrossFit has a pretty intense reputation, and I let that get in my head. I was really surprised that I loved it so much, but I shouldn’t have been. It’s people who love fitness and pushing themselves to perform better all together in a room.
What is your favorite movement/lift? Or, when you see this in the WOD, you get excited….
I love all lifting, but bench is probably my favorite.
What is your least favorite movement/lift? Or, when you see this in the WOD, you groan….
Burpees are the devil. More than assault bike, more than running, more than anything. I am so slow. I am working to get better at them and turn my weakness into a strength #hwpo #gruntwork
What do you like about CrossFit Allen?
Community, obviously, but I also love that CFA is a safe place to try new things. A safe space to put the pedal to the metal or practice active recovery. You don’t always have to RX or PR or be a beast. They really encourage pushing limits, but y’all also invest in slowing down and moving just to move,
Who is your CrossFit idol, or who do you most want to be like?
SARA SIGMUNDSDOTTIR. All day everyday. I admire her sunny disposition and her ability to absolutely beast a workout. She is so incredible. Watch out, Tia. My girl is coming for you.
What would you like to accomplish in CrossFit (move/lift/gymnastics/etc.) this year?
350# deadlift, strict pull-up, 25’ HSW
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I am trying to become fluent in Spanish! I’m studying cardiology in English and Spanish at the moment!
Is there a piece of CrossFit equipment (knee sleeves, grips, etc.) that you can’t live without?
I really like my one wrist wrap. I only have one, and I made it! It has kitty cats on it:)
What advice would you give to someone considering CrossFit or a beginner?
1. Just start. Just try. If you never try, you will never know what lies on the other side.
2. Failure is always an option! If you fail, then you learn. Success rocks, obviously. Failure can be just as valuable, and sometimes more so.
Anything else you’d like to include?
I like pineapple on pizza:)
