This is a question I get on occasion, so I figured I would share my answer…
If your goal is to get “lean and toned,” is cardio or lifting better?
There was a study that followed people for about 5 months while they were losing weight. One group mostly did cardio, the other lifted weights.
Both groups lost about the same amount of fat…
But the lifting group actually gained muscle, while the cardio group lost some.
So they ended up looking very different by the end.
Big takeaway:
If you’re trying to lose weight but still look strong/toned, lifting matters more than most people think.
What most people should probably do:
Lift weights 2–3x/week
Keep protein fairly high
Stay generally active (walking 7k+ steps, sports, etc.)
