If you’ve ever taken any of my fitness classes, you know that I am a stickler for form and breathing. Proper form helps you get more out of every exercise, reach your goals faster, and avoid injury. Listen to my trainer’s comments in the video regarding my hex squats. 🏋🏼‍♀️

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions? Many people make resolutions to “get in shape and lose weight.” This year, rather than focusing on the scale, considering the following resolutions:

To increase stamina and energy level.
To increase physical strength.
To learn new skills.
To move pain free and alleviate old aches & pains.
To improve your quality of life.
To build muscle.
To challenge yourself physically as a means to increase mental fortitude.
To increase balance, stability, and coordination.
To relieve stress.
To shatter self-imposed limitations.

The next 6 weeks may be filled with family obligations, shopping, parties, baking, etc, making it easy to find an excuse to skip some workouts. The best way to stay on track during the holiday season is to schedule time for exercise - put it on your calendar, just like a doctor appointment or work meeting. Even if you can’t hit the gym, a short session at home is better than nothing.

Aqua aerobics is often overlooked and considered an exercise for “the older population.” Aquatic exercises will improve your heart health, core/muscular strength & endurance, support weight loss, and assist with increasing mobility, flexibility, and balance. Did you know that it is important to mix up your workouts to avoid boredom and to prevent exercise plateau? Essentially, your brain learns how to best use the muscles needed for your workout, and it's your job to trick your brain into learning new exercises and foster growth in your overall fitness.
Many opportunities for a variety of exercise this week, incorporating strength, cardio, and endurance. Come out and try something new!!

Did you know that athletes typically sweat sooner and more voluminously than inactive people, and more than the athlete would have prior to starting training?? That's because athletic bodies learn that when the individual gets active, they REALLY get active, and it's best to start the cooldown strategy pronto!

Did you know that we start losing muscle mass after age 30, and that we continue to lose about 8% every decade?? But it’s never too late to start building muscle mass and gaining strength. Just ask my 88 year old mother if you don’t believe!
