DON’T LOSE YOUR HUMANITY WHILE TRYING TO BECOME “SOMEBODY.”

I recently attended a Chamber of Commerce event here in the Lehigh Valley. It was great seeing so many incredible people—business owners, professionals, leaders, and individuals working hard to make an impact in our community.

But something also stayed with me.

I crossed paths with someone who appears to be held in great esteem among his peers. Yet the interaction reminded me of an important truth:

Titles don’t make you important.
Money doesn’t make you important.
Status doesn’t make you important.
How you treat people does.

Success should never cost you your humanity.

What good is recognition if, somewhere along the journey, we become so consumed with ego, status, influence, or our own agenda that we stop seeing the human being standing in front of us?

You never truly know what another person is carrying.

A handshake costs nothing.
A smile costs nothing.
Kindness costs nothing.
Respect costs nothing.

And sometimes a simple moment of genuine human connection can mean more than we will ever realize.

Life is short. Time is limited. None of us knows how many opportunities we have left to encourage somebody, help somebody, forgive somebody, or simply acknowledge another person with dignity.

So as we build businesses, chase dreams, pursue success, and try to become “somebody,” let’s make sure we don’t lose who we are along the way.

Because when the titles disappear, the money is gone, and the applause stops, people may not remember every accomplishment—but they will remember how you made them feel.

Like the song says, spread a little love. ❤️

Let’s make the world a little better every day.

And maybe we can start right here at home by making the Lehigh Valley a little kinder, a little more connected, and a better place for all of us to live, work, and raise our families.

Success means very little if we lose our humanity achieving it.
