The Atlantis P439 Decline | Flat Converging Bench Press is one of the best plate-loaded chest presses if your goal is heavy chest loading with a strong contraction and relatively low stability demands.

What makes it different?

1. Converging Arms
Instead of the handles traveling purely straight forward, the two arms move forward and inward as you press. That gives you a pressing path somewhat analogous to bringing dumbbells together, while the machine provides much more stability.

2. Independent Arms
Each side has its own lever arm. This is excellent for keeping left/right strength relatively even, preventing your stronger side from doing all the work, getting a very deliberate chest contraction and doing unilateral work if you want.

3. Flat → Decline Adjustment
The P439 can be adjusted from flat to a 22° decline. At flat, think of it primarily as a mid-pec/general chest press. As you move toward the decline, the pressing angle generally makes it more favorable for the sternal/lower portion of the pec major, while reducing the contribution of the front delts compared with an incline press.

In a nutshell, if your gym has the Atlantis P439 on the floor, take it very seriously — it is a premium piece of equipment.
